We have an exciting opportunity for a part time band 7 speech and language therapist to develop the role of SALT within Mental Health Services for Older People.

We have an established AHP leadership team visible across the trust and are looking to collaborate to improve access to SALT.

### Main duties of the job

To provide a highly specialised Speech and Language Therapy service to our older adult services who present with complex communication and/or swallowing difficulties.

To lead on assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of communication and dysphagia needs within Older Adults services working collaboratively with service users, carers and the multidisciplinary team to promote quality of life, safety, participation and person-centred care The role will be integrated within the therapy team across Older Adults and will work with the team to develop person centred care plans.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To manage a caseload of service users with complex Speech and Language needs, using evidence based/client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment plans in clinic, wards, community settings and on home visits.

To undertake comprehensive speech and language therapy assessment of patients with  complex presentations, using investigative and analytical skills, to formulate an appropriate hypothesis and to determine a diagnosis.

To establish individualised management and treatment plans, using advanced clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of evidence-based treatment skills and options to formulate highly specialised interventions and programmes of care, which may include working with staff across organisational boundaries.

Assess and manage dysphagia, including risk assessment and recommendations regarding food, fluid and medication modification.

To provide highly specialist speech and language advice, treatment and support given to service users and their carers.

Contribute to training and development programmes as appropriate to the knowledge and skills of the individual, delivering to other professionals and service users.

Be responsible for own continuing professional development and maintaining own professional registration and meet HPC registration requirements, maintain a professional portfolio and demonstrating evidence of reflective practice.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Post registration experience in mental health
- Applied experience of providing both individual and group work interventions.
- Specialist knowledge and experience of using and applying Speech and Language Therapy assessment tools,

**Desirable**

- Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or learning disability in a variety of health and social care settings

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- BSc/MSc/PG Dip Speech and Language Therapy
- HCPC registration
- Practice Placement

**Desirable**

- Membership of RCSLT
