### Job overview

The Community Speech & Language Therapy Service at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an innovative Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapists to join the team for a 12 month fixed term period (secondment will be considered) due to the maternity leave of the current post holder..

The  post is to work into the Sefton locality with joint working across with Liverpool colleagues to support the implementation of our clinically evidence-based care pathways for children and young people presenting with speech sound disorders.

The post holder will work predominantly clinically with their own caseload as well as to support speech and language therapists and SLT assistants to provide good quality care to work towards achieving the outcomes set collaboratively with the CYP,  their parents / carers and families.

There are also elements of service co-ordination, clinical supervision and leadership expected as part of this post

The post is based in the community, and so there is an expectation that the successful candidate will be a car driver and have access to a vehicle to enable then to travel to, and between various locations throughout the week.

### Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work with their colleagues to further  the implement and monitor the quality of care pathways for children and young people in their highly specialist clinical area.

They will lead a small team  of speech and language therapists to provide clinical supervision ensuring they provide a high-quality speech and language therapy service to children in a variety of community settings including clinics, schools and nurseries.

We are looking for candidates who can assess and provide a range of therapeutic interventions using their highly specialist knowledge to children in the aforementioned clinical area.

The team work collaboratively with other partner agencies and carers to enable them to understand the communication needs and to provide appropriate advice, support and intervention.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To manage and prioritise a caseload of children and young people (CYP) aged 0-19, who present with  speech, language and / or communication needs, primarily speech sound disorders.

To work with clients, their parents/carers and other agencies involved with their care, in a range of settings including community clinics, specialist and mainstream schools, nurseries, Children’s Centres and other community settings.

To use highly skilled assessment procedures to gather information pertinent to the speech, language and communication needs of the CYP.

To provide highly specialised written reports and verbal advice, including training relevant professionals and the families.

To lead a small team of Speech & Language Therapists and / or Assistants, providing clinical supervision.

To work with SLT colleagues to review the clinical pathways for CYP in their highly specialist clinical area.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Excellent interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills.
- Ability to prioritise clinical and non-clinical activities.
- Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Well established knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to the specialist clinical area
- In depth knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the specialist clinical area)
- In depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the clinical area) and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits
- In depth working knowledge of of clinical governance

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant relevant experience post qualification, including demonstrable evidence working as a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist.
- Providing individual and group clinical supervision

**Desirable**

- Experience leading a team

- Demonstrates ability to be a good team member and develop leadership responsibilities.
- Ability to travel during the day to various community sites across the locality

- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
- Health & Care Professions Council – Licence to Practise

- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Master’s degree equivalent.

**Desirable**

- Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Network, or similar
