The department currently operates 08:00-20:00 Monday to Sunday. Cardiology NHS work accounts for over 50% of overall Cardiac MRI scanning time and involves tertiary referrals for neonates, pediatrics and adults throughout the Yorkshire region. Dedicated, state of the art cardiac imaging is provided on a wide bore Philips 1.5T Ingenia and 3T Achieva D-stream system whilst the majority of research sessions are performed on a Siemens 1.5T PRISMA. The combination of scanners and departmental layout provides the perfect balance and platform for high throughput Cardiac MRI lists. The Cardiac MRI unit is part of the University of Leeds CMR Clinical Research Group and whilst primarily funded by the Leeds University through multi-million pound research grants there is close collaboration with the Cardiology NHS Department to establish further roles in the clinical setting. The Cardiac MRI unit performs a wide range of protocols including ischemic, non-ischemic, hemochromatosis, and congenital diseases.
