Psychology and Psychotherapy Lead Post for Secondary Care Complex Emotional Needs

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Mental Health Teams in SLaM’s Croydon Operational Directorate.

The Croydon Community Secondary Care Psychology and Psychotherapy Pathways consist of a range or Psychological Practitioners from a range of multi-disciplinary and therapy training backgrounds. The pathways are supported by the Croydon Directorate Head of Psychology and Psychotherapy.

Psychology and Psychotherapy Staffing work with the local community we support to continually improve the range of Secondary Care Services that are provided. There is a strong emphasis on integration and link work with the Secondary Care Services as well as liaison with Inpatient, Crisis, Complex Care and Primary Care Pathways.

Croydon is currently undergoing a Community Redesign process with a move to Neighbourhood Teams that act as a Hub Facilitator for Mental Health needs in the Borough in partnership with external teams and services.

We are looking for someone to join our large, friendly and sociable team of Psychological Practitioners across the Secondary Care Community Pathway and wider Croydon Directorate and you will be made very welcome if you join us.

The post holder would primarily be based at Jeanette Wallace House, Edridge Rd, Croydon CR0 1ER. There would also be time spent at other locations including those based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital site.

### Main duties of the job

We are recruiting a Psychology and Psychotherapy Lead for Complex Emotional Needs in the new Croydon Community Secondary Care Neighbourhood Model.

We would welcome applications from highly skilled and enthusiastic Psychological Practitioner in Complex Emotional Needs such as clinicians who are trained and accredited in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and with leadership experience in a relevant context.

The post holder will be responsible governance and running of an intensive skills-based group and individual therapy programme with line management responsibility for staff up to Band 7 in collaboration with the Head of Psychology and Psychotherapy. Professional leadership and clinical supervision are also fundamental aspects of the role, alongside direct clinical work. Training and consultation to the teams within the Croydon Directorate forms part of the integrated link role of the post.

The current offer for Secondary Care Complex Emotional Needs, consists of individual therapy, skills training groups, phone coaching and a weekly consultation group for staff. Staff are also involved in the delivery and supervision of Stepped Care Interventions for patients in the wider MDT Community Teams, who present with emotion regulation difficulties. This post works primarily at the Tier 2 level of need. Support is also provided to the Clinical and Operational Lead for the Personality Disorder pathway in Croydon with provides input from Tier 1 to Tier 4.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive experience of delivering comprehensive intensive skills group and individual therapy for patients with Complex Emotional Needs.
- Extensive experience of working with clients with Complex Emotional Needs including patients with a diagnosis of Complex PTSD and Personality Disorder.
- Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature. To include assessment that aligns with the ICD-11.
- Experience of working with adult clients with a range of difficulties using relevant principles/skills to Complex Emotional Needs.
- Experience of working with patients with Neurodevelopmental Conditions.

**Desirable**

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Entry-level qualification in applied psychological therapy/mental health/social welfare profession and demonstrable practice in this field (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level/supervised practice/additional training) that has been accepted for the purposes of professional registration.
- - Training in a specialist therapeutic model that is applicable to patients with Complex Emotional Needs.

**Desirable**

- Accredited DBT Therapist with SfDBT.
- Trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
- Trained in DBT-PE (Prolonged Exposure protocol).
- Trained in Family Connections.

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Comprehensive theoretical knowledge of psychological therapy approaches to Complex Emotional Needs.
- Knowledge of psychological assessment and formulation for Complex Emotional Needs.
- Theoretical knowledge of a wide range of mental health difficulties that are often comorbid with Complex Emotional Needs (e.g. neurodevelopmental conditions, substance misuse, eating disorders, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, depression) and the evidence base and protocols for the relevant psychological intervention.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection, and equalities.
- Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care.

**Desirable**

- Record of publications in academic or professional journals/books.
- Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for groups, presentations in public, professional and academic meetings.
