Post: 0.28WTE Band 8A Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical/Counselling/Health) in Heart/Lung Transplant - Maternity leave cover

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic HCPC registered practitioner psychologist to work as part of our Transplant Psychology team. You will be delivering high quality psychological care for the patients of the Heart / Lung Transplant Unit, Wythenshawe Hospital. This will involve direct clinical work with inpatients in cardiothoracic critical care and our transplant Jim Quick ward. The outpatient aspects of the role will include virtual and in person clinics. The role will also involve indirect work, offering consultation to the multidisciplinary surgery team. Supervision from will be provided from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, as well as peer supervision with a fellow 8A Clinical Psychologist.

We welcome interest from candidates who are soon to qualify/recently qualified. If successful, they would be appointed at Band 7 and supported to develop towards Band 8a.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will join an established psychology service within Transplant Surgery where they will provide high quality and evidence-based psychological care at Wythenshawe Hospital (MFT). They will aim to support the ongoing improvement of psychological care provided for (adult) patients, families and carers, under the care of the Transplant Surgery MDT. The post holder will carry an appropriate clinical caseload, as well as offering expert consultation and teaching/training/supervision to other members of the wider Multidisciplinary team working in Transplant Surgery.

You will have the opportunity to get involved with relevant projects e.g. groups/training etc. Opportunities to participate in service development will be available, as well as ensuring key performance targets are achieved.

The post holder will be expected to be ward based for at least half of the working week, as a core member of the Transplant surgery multi-disciplinary team.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Ability to use own initiative and to work under supervision where appropriate
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise effectively with other professionals

**Desirable**

- Skills in providing consultation to other professionals and non-professional groups.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of legislation in relation to clients of the Transplant Surgery services, and of relevant mental health legislation.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working with client groups in a hospital-based physical health setting, presenting with the full range of clinical severity. This includes maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the possible threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of working as a qualified clinical/counselling/health psychologist (less experienced candidates will be appointed at Band 7 and work towards 8A competencies)
- Supervised experience (from a senior practitioner psychologist) in the application of cognitive-behavioural approaches to clinical settings (e.g. transplant medicine or general medical conditions).
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.

**Desirable**

- Experience of working within Transplant Surgery environments, delivering evidenced based psychological interventions
- Experience providing pre-surgical screening assessments
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- British Psychological Society Accredited Doctoral Degree in Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychology
- Registered with The Health & Care Professions Council as a ‘Practitioner Psychologist’.

**Desirable**

- Training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological relevance (e.g. staff training, research methodology, and / or other fields of applied psychology)
