Are you an experienced clinical pharmacist with an interest in renal and urology pharmacy? We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking Band 8a Highly Specialist Pharmacist to join our renal and urology pharmacy team at The Royal London Hospital.

This is a varied and rewarding role within one of the largest and most complex renal services in the country. You will work closely with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Renal and Urology, the wider pharmacy team, consultants, nurses and the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and patient-focused medicines optimisation across inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and dialysis services.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop advanced clinical, leadership, governance, prescribing and service-development skills within a supportive and ambitious pharmacy department.

You will be primarily based at The Royal London Hospital, with a requirement to work across Barts Health sites as needed, including travel to satellite dialysis units.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Renal and Urology in delivering a high-quality clinical pharmacy and medicines management service across the specialty.

You will provide specialist clinical pharmacy input to renal and urology patients, including participation in consultant ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, outpatient clinics, medicines reconciliation, prescribing and discharge planning. You will promote safe, effective and cost-effective prescribing, ensuring medicines are optimised to improve outcomes, reduce harm and support patient flow.

The role will include supporting the development and implementation of evidence-based guidelines, shared care arrangements, patient group directions and local medicines policies. You will also contribute to medicines governance, risk management, incident review, audit, service improvement and cost improvement programmes.

You will play an important role in the education, supervision and development of junior pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals. The post holder will also support staff management, appraisals, objectives, training and performance development within the renal and urology pharmacy team.

The role includes participation in late duty, weekend, bank holiday and on-call rotas.

- Understanding of GPhC revalidation requirements
- Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
- Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
- Understanding of stock control systems
- Sound knowledge of drugs and therapeutics in renal and urology at diploma level or equivalent
- An awareness of current national standards, guidelines and service delivery issues relevant to Renal and Urology patients
- Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
- Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
- Knowledge of the law and relevant guidance relating to medicines, pharmacy, rationing decisions in the NHS, Payment by Results (PbR) and commissioning

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant experience post registration in a hospital based clinical post
- Experience of providing a hospital-based service to renal patients at specialist pharmacist level or equivalent
- Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care
- Experience of providing evaluated information on drug expenditure
- Thorough understanding of clinical governance and clinical risk management
- Experience of successfully managing and supervising staff, performing appraisals and giving feedback
- Evidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. trainee / junior pharmacists / other HCPs

**Desirable**

- Successful experience of managing & leading projects
- Experience of managing guidelines and PGDs relevant to the speciality
- Experience of managing medication incidents
- Experience managing renal patients in the outpatient setting
- Experience running an outpatient clinic under supervision

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MPharm or equivalent
- Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
- Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
- Independent prescribing qualification

**Desirable**

- Management qualification or equivalent experience
