An exciting opportunity has arisen in North Tyneside Specialist Community Psychology Service for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, to provide excellent, high quality and time limited psychological interventions in accordance with NICE guidelines to patients presenting with a range of mental health problems.

The successful candidate will be joining a well-established, Psychology team that continues to offer high quality, evidence based psychological interventions for the North Tyneside population.

We have a part time vacancy and are accepting applications via this job description and from Specialist Psychological Therapists (alternative advert).

The service delivers high quality clinical supervision and CPD programmes in house, and strongly supports staffs’ continued learning and development; and established links with Newcastle Uni, DCLIN Psych Course.

### Main duties of the job

Successful candidates should be keen to work therapeutically with a wide range of psychological difficulties, however a significant proportion of the work is with people presenting with complex psychological difficulties, predominantly linked to developmental trauma. The Psychology team includes therapists trained in a range of therapeutic models including Psychology, EMDR, CAT, CBT and IFS.

The role will require you to work in conjunction with colleagues to deliver services within a flexible model of care. As the service is designed to promote greater access you will be required to work flexible hours to enable this improved service delivery. This is a great opportunity to be a part of an experienced and committed service in a forward-thinking organisation and make a tangible difference to those struggling with a range of mental health problems.

Successful candidates will be registered with their relevant professional body (for psychologists this includes eligible for Chartered Status with the BPS). The successful candidates would ideally have experience working in primary care and have skills and expertise in working therapeutically with complex patients.

The post holder will work within North Tyneside Specialist Community Psychology Service. The service is a specialist NHS primary care psychology service providing a range of psychological interventions for people living in North Tyneside who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

The post holder will provide therapy interventions to patients with a range of complex mental health disorders and provide clinical supervision to other Clinical/Counselling Psychologists and Psychological Therapists.

To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered with health Professions Council (HCPC) as a qualified Practitioner Psychologist
- Honours degree in psychology, giving eligibility for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
- Doctoral degree or equivalent qualification as accredited by the British Psychological Society as qualification for the independent practice of applied psychology in the Health Service.
- Educated to a minimum requirement of Bachelors degree in psychology minimum 3 years full-time and a Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology minimum of a further 3 years full-time or equivalent. There is an additional expectation of previous clinical experience prior to undertaking postgraduate qualifications.

### Other Requirements

**Essential**

- It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role.

### Experience and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Evidence of CPD as recognised by the BPS
- Experience in clinical psychology as applied to primary care.
- Sufficient post qualification clinical experience
- Experience of individual direct clinical work with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity
- Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.
- Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
- Demonstrate further specialist training/experience though having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision over a minimum of 18 months whilst working as a specialist clinical psychologist or alternative as agreed by Head of Service
- Experience of working with clients with common mental health disorders within Primary Care or Health Psychology setting
- To maintain their practicing certificates, clinical/counselling psychologists are expected to undertake activities consistent with continuing professional development. This can include clinical supervision of practice, attendance at specialist workshops, seminars and short courses.

**Desirable**

- Planning, organising and running groups
- Experience in consultation, supervision and/or research activities within Adult mental health/primary care.
