Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in Tower Hamlets are seeking a highly specialist clinical psychologist to work in our socially and culturally diverse borough.  We want the very best services for our children and young people. That’s why we are looking for someone like you.

Tower Hamlets CAMHS is a busy, innovative and vibrant service with good relationship with our partner agencies in Social Care, Education and 3rd sector. Our main clinic is in Whitechapel, with a second clinic in Limehouse, both of which have excellent transport links. ELFT is rated ‘outstanding’ by CQC with first-class personal and professional development opportunities.

### Main duties of the job

This post is based in our multidisciplinary Emotional and Behavioural Team 2. We aim to deliver timely and comprehensive assessment and treatment service, offering goal-based episodes of care to children and young people and families. Alongside individual case work there are a range of groups such as DBT, NVR parenting and Behaviour Management for parents of children with Neurodevelopmental Difficulties. There are opportunities to have consultations from colleagues to support casework (such as Trauma, Psychotherapy consultations). We also have well established People Participation groups for parents and young people. The service embraces continual improvement, and the staff and management team have a high degree of enthusiasm for quality improvement.

**Essential**

- Ability to deal sensitively with stressful situations including staff and /or organisational problems, child abuse, family breakdown, serious mental ill health, and to cope with verbal abuse and to recognise and diffuse potential physical abuse from clients
- Ability to work autonomously, setting appropriate goals, in accordance with professional ethics guidelines and Trust policies
- Understanding of equality of opportunity and related policies and procedures
- Respectful approach to service users, families, carers, colleagues, and other professionals

**Desirable**

- Record of having published in either peer reviewed or academic professional journals and/or books

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist (with children and young people) for a minimum of two years
- Substantial experience of working with evidence-based approaches for low mood/depression, anxiety, behaviour problems, trauma, emotional dysregulation, self-harm and suicidality
- Experience of working with a range of CAMHS presentations
- Experience of working with young people out of school/education
- Knowledge and experience with working with safeguarding issues and serious mental health problems
- Experience, skills and flexibility to contribute to and facilitate effective working within a multidisciplinary team setting
- Enthusiasm and experience of using routine outcome measures
- Project management or service development
- Experience of group work
- Experience/knowledge of working in a multiethnic community and working with interpreters

**Desirable**

- Supervision Training
- Experience of quality improvement and innovative projects

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Specialist clinical skills within specific therapeutic modalities. In particular, cognitive behaviour therapy
- Skilled in emergency and crisis assessments
- Ability to multi-task, prioritise and work flexibly according to need
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; at an age-appropriate level, complex, highly technical and /or clinically sensitive information to children, adolescents, their families, carers and professionals within and outside the NHS
- Able to work effectively across organisational boundaries
- Skills in supervising and facilitating the development of skills in others (e.g. through consultation or training)
- A high degree of self-awareness and an ability to reflect on personal and professional attitudes and accept feedback
- Knowledge of current guidelines and recent developments in evidence-based assessments and interventions for children and young people with mental health problems/disorders (including first episode of psychosis and bipolar disorder)
- Evidence of continuing professional development as required by professional guidelines
- Knowledge, understanding and experience with diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and families with a high level of deprivation

### Education/Qualification/Training

**Essential**

- Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996)
- Registration with HPC

**Desirable**

- Qualifications/ training in specialist skills, e.g. CBT or DBT
