### Job overview

The post holder will work with the support of the Acute Paediatric Physiotherapy Team Lead to provide clinical leadership to, and development of the inpatient paediatric neurology, neurosurgery and oncology service. They will hold responsibility for the provision of the day to day running of these inpatient physiotherapy services. The post holder will provide physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice within the inpatient setting, enabling and leading on timely onward referral to community therapy or rehabilitation services.

### Main duties of the job

- Develop and lead across acute services, including neurosurgery, neurology and oncology
- Have advanced skills and expertise in assessment, treatment and management of acute and chronic paediatric conditions including but not limited to: neurosurgery, neurology and oncology.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and ward rounds.
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with the speciality consultants to ensure high standards of care and timely intervention for children.
- Responsible for the supervision and teaching of physiotherapists / physiotherapy assistants / students, MDT staff and parents / carers in physiotherapeutic care of paediatric patients

- Work alongside the Highly Specialised Respiratory Paediatric Physiotherapists in Trauma and Orthopaedics and Paediatric Intensive Care to provide skilled team leadership and be responsible for supporting operational management, team development, implementation of policy and policy changes in paediatrics, and to set and monitor standards of practice.
- Supervise, initiate and participate in evidence-based projects, including recommendations for change in practice.
- Lead in departmental research and audit.
- Work with senior colleagues in developing and establishing new paediatric services within the Trust.
- Participate in weekend working, providing cover to paediatric respiratory patients.
- Work with community and acute colleagues collaboratively to support and treat paediatric patients.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Previous band 6 experience within paediatric neurology or neurosurgery
- Appraisal, supervision and teaching of juniors, assistants and other MDT members
- Broad range of rotational experience including MSK, neurology, respiratory and orthopaedics

**Desirable**

- Previous experience as a Band 7 in Neurology or Neurosurgery
- Experience in PICU, including the management of invasively ventilated children
- Experience of operational team management

### Education/qualification

**Essential**

- Degree in physiotherapy
- HCPC registered

**Desirable**

- MSc or equivalent qualification
- Member of relevant special interest group
- Leadership or Management Training
