Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, well known as a specialised children's hospital in the centre of London, has a vacancy for 2x Band 7 Highly Specialised Clinical Physiologists.

The Department of Clinical Neurophysiology delivers daily outpatient clinics within the department but a high proportion of the work is carried out in the more challenging environments of the wards and Intensive Care Units. The department also provides specialist services in EEG Video Telemetry and Intraoperative Spinal Monitoring(IOM).

We are seeking a Physiologist with demonstrable extensive experience who will be expected to work across all areas of the department, performing a broad range of clinical investigations on children, working independently in the department, wards, ICU, telemetry and in intraoperative monitoring. Many patients have complex neurological and clinical problems and have been referred from tertiary centres elsewhere.

The department has a longstanding commitment and history of new developments in the field of paediatric clinical neurophysiology.

We are looking for 2 Band 7 Highly Specialised Clinical Physiologists. 1 x fixed term contract (12 months) and 1x permanent.

### Main duties of the job

You will be expected to provide concise factual reports and participate in training and supervision of junior members of staff, including students and observers. Regular study and training sessions are mandatory for all staff, with the opportunity to attend courses and meetings at both national and international level. The postholder will also facilitate in quality improvement processes in the department.

- Perform a broad range of clinical investigations on children working independently in the department, on wards and in operating theatres. The majority of these investigations are non-standard and complex
- Provide concise factual reports
- Training and supervision of junior members of staff, including students and observers
- Assist in the management of the technical work of the department
- Organise other members of staff at lower grades to ensure efficient delivery of that part of the service, for which they have responsibility
- Making provision for recordings related to the appropriate R&D activity
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the department

### Skills/Abilities

**Essential**

- To independently perform wide range of neurophysiological tests
- To communicate complex and sensitive information well and relate to children and their families and/or carers.
- To interpret specialist neurophysiological investigation results and patient conditions
- To work autonomously, co-ordinate, plan, organize, and participate in day-to-day management of the service
- Ability to lead a small team
- Ability to undertake complex hand-eye coordination tasks with dexterity e.g. apply at least 24 electrodes to children of various age
- Ability to multi-task and cope with constant change/interruptions.
- IT literate with good computer skills
- Ability to supervise and train junior physiologists.
- Ability to adapt to new techniques and technologies
- Able to work well in a team
- Ability to organise work to meet deadlines
- Ability to identify health and safety risks and take appropriate remedial action

**Desirable**

- Ability to take responsibility for planning, executing and updating protocols

### Experience/Knowledge

**Essential**

- Demonstrable extensive post-graduate experience
- In-depth understanding of a range of Clinical Neurophysiology concepts
- Broad experience & familiarity in clinical EEG post qualification, including complex/advanced Evoked Potentials in ICU/clinical department/operating theatre
- Experience in handling investigation requests and determining priority
- Training and Assessment Experience
- Paediatric experience
- Experience in operating theatres
- Telemetry experience

**Desirable**

- Experience of managing others
- Broad understanding of occupational policies
- An interest in neurological conditions relevant to the speciality such as epilepsy, degenerative and developmental neurological disorders, spinal cord and brain injury
