### Job overview

The Department of Clinical Neurophysiology delivers daily outpatient clinics within the department but a high proportion of the work is carried out in the more challenging environments of the wards and Intensive Care Units. The department also provides specialist services in EEG Video Telemetry and Intraoperative Spinal Monitoring(IOM).

We are seeking a Physiologist with demonstrable extensive experience who will be expected to work across all areas of the department, performing a broad range of clinical investigations on children, working independently in the department, wards, ICU, telemetry and in intraoperative monitoring. Many patients have complex neurological and clinical problems and have been referred from tertiary centres elsewhere.

The department has a longstanding commitment and history of new developments in the field of paediatric clinical neurophysiology.

You will be expected to provide concise factual reports and participate in training and supervision of junior members of staff, including students and observers. Regular study and training sessions are mandatory for all staff, with the opportunity to attend courses and meetings at both national and international level. You will also facilitate in quality improvement processes in the department. Perform a broad range of clinical investigations on children working independently in the department, on wards and in operating theatres. The majority of these investigations are non-standard and complex

### Main duties of the job

- Plan, perform, interpret and provide factual reports of unsupervised neurophysiological investigations. These tests are carried out in the department and in the more challenging environments of the wards, ITUs and operating theatres
- Assist the Professional Service Manager in the day-to-day organising, scheduling of workload and line management of junior members of staff
- To organise and initiate training of junior members of staff where appropriate and in assist in training of visitors to the department.
- Reporting faults or problems with the equipment used in any part of the service to Professional Service Manager or Clinical Engineers
- To ensure accurate logging and filing of data from the neurophysiological investigations. To be responsible for its availability and integrity and to follow the regulations relating to the Data Protection Act.
- To participate in an on-call service to the Trust (giving cover at weekends and Bank Holidays).
- To assist in ongoing research within the department and undertake audits into current practices
- To help develop existing departmental diagnostic protocols.

**Essential**

- To independently perform wide range of neurophysiological tests
- To communicate complex and sensitive information well and relate to children and their families and/or carers.
- To interpret specialist neurophysiological investigation results and patient conditions
- To work autonomously, co-ordinate, plan, organize, and participate in day-to-day management of the service
- Ability to lead a small team
- Ability to undertake complex hand-eye coordination tasks with dexterity e.g. apply at least 24 electrodes to children of various age
- Ability to multi-task and cope with constant change/interruptions.
- IT literate with good computer skills
- Ability to supervise and train junior physiologists.
- Ability to adapt to new techniques and technologies
- Able to work well in a team
- Ability to organise work to meet deadlines
- Ability to identify health and safety risks and take appropriate remedial action

- Ability to take responsibility for planning, executing and updating protocols

- Demonstrable extensive post-graduate experience
