There is an exciting opportunity to join our hepatology service, currently 2 posts available as the service expands. Assist in the delivery of high quality Hepatology services throughout the Trust. Working alongside other clinical colleagues to provide expert care, treatment and support for this patient group.

The post holder will contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research and audit as well as developing practice.

They will play a key role within the multidisciplinary team in order to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated and timely approach to care.

The C&W hospital has a strong Hepatology service, both within the trust and outreaching into local communities.

The team is led by a consultant team who work alongside the clinical nurse specialists. There is strong multi-disciplinary working and close links with other providers. The services is evolving and has strong educational and research focusses.

To apply for this role you will need to have a relevant experience as a Hepatology clinical Nurse Specialist experience or equivalent.

### Main duties of the job

- To receive referrals within the specialty from the health care team and respond to requests for expert advice and guidance
- To work within an agreed job plan to meet service needs which should be reviewed annually
- To work cross site at both Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex Hospital in addition to outreach clinics run by the service
- To conduct holistic assessment and providing supervision & guidance to colleagues in skilled history taking, physical examination, observation and ordering, conducting and interpreting relevant tests and investigations
- To work in collaboration with the multi professional team, contributing expert, evidence based knowledge and skills to relevant aspects of the patients care and treatment
- To maintain boundaries of own practice within agreed guidelines and protocols, use professional judgment in managing complex and unpredictable situations and seek guidance from other relevant experts
- To address patient’s risk factors and health promotion needs through comprehensive assessment of individuals for risk factors and early signs of illness

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To plan, implement and evaluate teaching sessions for ward staff involved in caring for Hepatology patients.
- To act as a resource for pre and post registration nurses.
- To provide opportunities to shadow the Hepatology CNS, e.g. student nurses, newly qualified nurses, nurses on induction, dieticians, medical students.
- To demonstrate expert knowledge of the literature regarding Hepatology by regularly reviewing the literature and applying to practice.
- To undertake responsibility for own professional development, undertake appropriate activities, attend relevant conferences to update clinical knowledge and skills and apply to practice.
- Act as a resource for Hepatology within the Trust, and other external agencies
- To recognise own limitations whilst working within the Scope of Professional Practice.
