This post is an LAS secondment opportunity funded by Bart’s Health, with employment remaining with LAS. On a day-to-day basis the post holder will be line managed via Bart’s Health, with a reporting line to LAS. The initial secondment is for 12 months which will be reviewed with the potential to extend for a further 12 months. The LAS covers an area of 620 sq. miles, serves one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse cities, is the busiest ambulance service in the UK and an essential part of LAA. For 35 years Bart’s Health has provided the medical staff and clinical governance for LAA and has a global reputation for excellence. Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the organisation's clinical governance framework. - Promote a culture of patient safety, openness, learning and continuous quality improvement. - Ensure governance processes align with national NHS standards, legislation and best practice. - Ensure the correct procedures are in place for all clinical equipment. - Monitor governance performance and provide assurance to senior leadership, LAS and Bart’s Health. - Manage occurrences reported via the Bart’s Health DATIX process and the LAA Centrik system. - Analyse governance data to identify trends and areas requiring improvement. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities ### Clinical Governance - Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the organisation's clinical governance framework. - Promote a culture of patient safety, openness, learning and continuous quality improvement. - Ensure governance processes align with national NHS standards, legislation and best practice. - Ensure the correct procedures are in place for all clinical equipment. - Monitor governance performance and provide assurance to senior leadership, LAS and Bart’s Health. - Manage occurrences reported via the Bart’s Health DATIX process and the LAA Centrik system. - Analyse governance data to identify trends and areas requiring improvement. ### Risk Management - Lead the identification, assessment and management of organisational risks. - Oversee the maintenance of risk registers and ensure risks are escalated appropriately. - Support teams in developing and monitoring risk mitigation plans. - Analyse emerging risks and share information with the relevant stakeholders. ### Patient Safety and Incident Management - Oversee systems for reporting, investigating and learning from incidents, near misses and patient safety events. - Ensure investigations are completed to a high standard using recognised methodologies. - Monitor and action appropriate recommendations and action points from case based review and Clinical Governance Days (CGD) and evaluate their effectiveness. - Identify organisational themes and disseminate learning across services. ### Audit and Quality Improvement - Develop and coordinate the clinical audit process within LAA. - Undertake quality improvement projects to ensure safe and effective practice continues and develops. - Monitor compliance with audit recommendations and quality standards. - Produce reports demonstrating improvements in patient outcomes and service delivery. ### Leadership - Build effective relationships with clinical and non-clinical teams. - Influence organisational culture through visible leadership and collaborative working. - Assist the Senior Clinical Lead Paramedic (SCLP) with paramedic development and support the educational and training activity for doctors. - Provide clinical leadership to the paramedic group, supporting a robust training programme, mentorship and clinical sign off. - Undertake EOC & clinical shifts as a flight paramedic and demonstrate high standards across all elements of this role (technical and non-technical), so as to act as a credible role model. ## Person Specification ### Knowledge **Essential** - Expert knowledge of pre-hospital care equipment - Knowledge of core educational principles **Desirable** - Broad understanding of the NHS Strategies ### Experience **Essential** - Previous London HEMS flight paramedic secondment (within past 12 months) - Team working with staff from a variety of disciplines and levels of seniority - Experience of mentoring trainee HEMS paramedics **Desirable** - Investigation of incidents or complaints - Experience of using audit to improve service quality ### Skills / Abilities **Essential** - Able to manage adverse incident / occurrence reports - Able to critically appraise medical literature to inform SOPs and other material - Able to author SOPs or similar - Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times - Evidence of effective teamwork and leadership behaviors - Aptitude to enhance personal development and own skills - Flexibility and adaptability - Excellent attention to detail - Ability to deliver training of a sensitive and/or controversial nature - High level of computer literacy **Desirable** - Ability to utilise digital technologies ### Education and Qualifications **Essential** - HCPC registered paramedic - Bachelor’s Degree or foundation degree and working towards BSc or level 6 study **Desirable** -
