### Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at the Minor Injury Unit at Kidderminster Treatment Centre. Kidderminster MIU is a busy department open from 8am until 10pm, seven days a week, seeing over 26,000 patients a year.

We are seeking an individual to join our friendly well-established team. The job role requires a friendly, dedicated individual who will work as a Health Care Assistant, helping the Emergency Nurse Practitioners provide care and treatments to the patients attending MIU and manning the reception desk.

The post is part-time (12hrs pw). Flexibility is required to cover a Shift pattern of 7.30am- 8pm and 10am -10.30pm, over weekdays and weekends.

### Main duties of the job

The role includes:

Taking patient vital sign observations.

Completing ECG's.

Application of plaster of paris and dressings - under the supervision and direction of the Nurse Practitioners.

Basic life support.

Administrative duties.

Cleaning and stock rotation.

Answering the telephones and manning the reception desk, outside of the receptionist's working hours.

### Job responsibilities

The Healthcare Assistants role in The Minor Injury Unit is a combination of Reception/Clerical responsibilities and delivering safe effective nursing care for all patients within their competency range.

Undertake clinical procedures following assessment of competencies under direct supervision of Emergency Nurse Practitioners including application of plaster of paris and dressings.

Carry out delegated nursing care including observations of patients.

Welcome patients into MIU and book them onto the required IT systems.

Adhere to all trust policies and procedures.

Report and communicate effectively with other staff members, patients and relatives.

Ensure confidentiality, dignity, privacy and respect for patients always.

Assist and participate in activities to meet occupational needs of patients.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Previous experience of working in a Health Care environment.
- Experience of working with vulnerable patients.

**Desirable**

- Previous experience of working as a Health Care Assistant in an Acute Hospital.
- Experience in A&E or MIU.
- Experience of working with paediatric patients.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Good standard of education including Maths and English.
- NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience.

**Desirable**

- NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care.
- First Aid Qualification.
- ECG, Venepuncture.

### Personal Qualities

**Essential**

- Good team working skills.
- Professional image and attitude.
- Able to work under pressure and in stressful situations.

### Skills and knowledge.

- Good verbal and written communication skills.
