### Job overview

The Sleep Services Department Assistant works as part of the Sleep Physiology team, providing an efficient, high quality and patient focussed Sleep service. You will aid qualified staff before, during and after sleep studies are undertaken in the department and give the necessary care to support patients on Continuous Positive Airway Pressure treatment (CPAP).

The post-holder will work across Trafford General Hospital and may be required to work at Withington Community Hospital as part of the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). Working pattern includes nights and weekends to meet service requirements.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience working with the general public.
- Use of computers including Microsoft Office.

**Desirable**

- Previous Healthcare/Clinical Experience.
- Practical Experience or familiarity with a range of respiratory/sleep investigations.
- Overnight monitoring of patients

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Basic education including minimum 5 GCSE grade A-C (grade 4-9) or equivalent including Math and English.

**Desirable**

- NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a relevant scientific area.
- Healthcare Apprenticeship

### Skills and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in a variety of forms to patients, relatives carers and staff where appropriate
- Ability to keep accurate documentation.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Work unsupervised and as part of a team.
- Must maintain total patient confidentiality at all times.
- Prepared to work unsociable hours on a rostered system ( Night shifts will be the main working pattern)
- Caring manner
- Motivated and organised

**Desirable**

- Able to undertake complex eye-hand co-ordination in the use of diagnostic equipment.
