### Job summary

Deliver effective nursing care to patients/parents/carers who present to the Childrens Ward under the direction of qualified nursing staff. Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and the multi professional team to ensure information is shared in a timely and appropriate manner. Seek supervision to ensure that personal clinical practice is continuously developing. Participate in appropriate training to ensure safe competent clinical practice. Ensure that all documentation is reviewed by a qualified member of the team in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidance. Act at all times in the best interests of the patient. The post is advertised as a band 3 role subject to the following: successfully completing the care certification within the six month probationary period of employment, during which you will be paid Band 2 or providing a copy of your completed care certificate which has been reviewed during the recruitment process and determined as meeting the accepted standard Upon successful completion (or accepted evidence) of the Care Certification and completion of the probationary period of employment, you will be promoted to NHS AFC Band 3. Failure to complete the Care Certification within this timeframe may result in termination of employment.

In consultation with the nursing staff respond to patient needs and liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team as appropriate Promote, monitor and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for patients, families and staff. To assist the nurses to meet the needs of all patients Be aware of your own responsibilities with regard to emergency situations that may occur. To answer the telephone and refer enquiries to the appropriate nurse. Escort patients and families who do not require a qualified nurse escort to other departments To be responsible for the cleaning, maintenance and storage of all equipment at ward level.. Help maintain the cleanliness of the environment. Ensure all public areas of the department are tidy. Participate in training and development opportunities in order to enhance professional development. To constantly maintain and develop own knowledge and expertise.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality
- Working with children/young people and families, within a multicultural environment
- Experience or knowledge of safeguarding children

- Basic understanding of child development

### Qualifications

- GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
