As a Health Equity Nurse for Lung Cancer, you will work across Barts Health hospitals, community services, and local neighbourhoods, supporting one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse populations in the country. No two days will be the same — this is a dynamic, outward-facing role combining clinical care, community engagement, education and service improvement.

Due to the nature of the work and patient group you will be working with and providing support to, fluency in a second language is desirable element for this postholder.

You will be fully integrated within the specialist lung cancer nursing team, providing expert support across lung cancer from diagnosis and treatment pathway.

### Main duties of the job

A key focus of the role is addressing inequalities in access, outcomes and research participation for this particular cohort of patient group. You will actively engage with local communities and stakeholders, raise awareness, provide education, and advocate for patients — particularly those from underserved groups. You will also work closely with clinical and research teams to improve understanding of, and participation in, clinical trials within diverse communities.

Alongside clinical responsibilities, you will have opportunities to:

- Lead and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
- Develop advanced research and trial knowledge
- Strengthen your skills in teaching, audit, leadership and service development

## Person Specification

### Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to work alone and under pressure.
- Ability to manage complex situations both clinically and in terms of administration.
- Presentation Skills.
- Communication skills with minority ethnic communities.

**Desirable**

- Fluency in second language
- Understanding and management of data.
- Physical assessment skills and qualification.
- Advanced Communications course.
- Psychological level 2.
- SACT qualification and skills to deliver SACT.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Proven clinical skills & sound knowledge base in various treatment modalities for Lung cancer

**Desirable**

- Knowledges on teaching and learning in minority ethnic population

### Experience

**Essential**

- Post registration experience in lung cancer or related areas.
- Experience as a band 6 in lung cancer or similar oncology related experience.
- Possession of a primary degree.
- Working in clinical research and audit.
- Working with minority ethnic groups.

**Desirable**

- Good working knowledge of lung cancer including the investigation and treatment pathway.
- Experience in nurse led clinics or services.
- Significant involvement in Quality Improvement Project(s).
- Teaching and education experience.
- Working with / in primary care
- Working with / in public health

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse- degree level

**Desirable**

- Master’s degree or PhD in nursing including modules regarding cancer care, physical assessment course and non-medical prescriber
- GCP training
- SACT qualification
- Good clinical practice completion
