We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and proactive Health and Safety Advisor to make a real impact across Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust.

In this varied Band 7 role, you will lead on specialist health and safety matters, provide expert guidance across the organisation, and help create safer environments for patients, staff, visitors and volunteers. Working with colleagues at every level, you will drive compliance, support innovation, influence best practice and play a key role in improving safety, wellbeing and quality across our communities.

### Main duties of the job

- Support the trust aims in achieving compliance with its statutory duties under Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- To be the Trust’s competent person as required by legislation and provide expert advice and support to ensure compliance.
- To implement the variety of the Trust’s health and safety policies and provide expert guidance and training on all aspects of health and safety, and welfare matters to all Trust staff and volunteers.
- To lead on security related duties that are required under Health and Safety legislation and the NHS Violence Prevention and Reduction Standard.
- To undertake the mandatory role of Central Alerting System Liaison Officer. The role includes the management of the safety alert distribution, tracking and monitoring process, often with challenging deadlines. Compliance is monitored by the CQC and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
- To act as Chair of the Trust Health and Safety Working Group.
- To prepare, conduct and evaluate health and safety related risk audits and surveys across the Trust management of the risk profile. Where high risk situations are identified consult and work in conjunction with managers with a view to reducing areas of risk.

- Ability to meet the travel needs of the post which will include travel across the Trust’s geographical area

### Experience

**Essential**

- Provision of advice to managers/supervisors
- Handling of health and safety investigations
- Experience of formulating, implementing and revising health and safety policies and procedures
- Experience of working with the Health and Safety Executive and/or other external agencies
- Significant experience of investigation health and safety incidents

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
- Able to create, deliver and evaluate effective training packages to meet Trust requirements and appropriate legislation
- Ability to work on own initiative and autonomously escalating as appropriate for guidance
- Specialist knowledge of health and safety

### Training and Qualifications

**Essential**

- MSc in Health and Safety Management (or equivalent)
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent)
- Certified Membership of institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CertIOSH)
- Level 4 Violence Prevention and Reduction Qualification
