### Job overview

As the Band 6 Health Advisor you will be reporting to the Lead Nurse of the department, based in Ashwood Centre, St Mary’s Hospital in Kettering, Northamptonshire. However, we also operate in smaller spoke sites which include Wellingborough, Corby and Rushden.

The post-holder will co-lead on the delivery of the health-advising aspect of the service at the Ashwood Centre Hub site alongside other Health Adviser colleagues based at NGH hub site. There will be responsibility for ensuring that the other members of the nursing team are trained to deliver health advice and that the advice given is consistent. This consistency will require agreements with your counterpart at our Northampton Hub to ensure there is both internal and countywide consistency. The post holder will also lead on the delivery of partner notification and support the service to contact trace to reduce infection. A key relationship to achieving this will be with the Lead for the Coding and Recall Team (CART). The post holder will still fulfil some of the nursing aspects of the generic B6 post if appropriate. There would be an expectation you would train for phlebotomy to flexibly support the clinical services.

- To provide partner notification for patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, including contacts of infection have been informed and treatment to reduce the spread of infection.
- To provide a safe environment whereby patients can openly discuss their concerns and ask questions
- To participate and lead on safeguarding supervisions for the team
- To provide comprehensive assessments on vunerable patients, including young people, patients with additional needs or mental healh concerns.
- To complete safeguarding referrals
- To see patients face to face for testing/screening and test results.
- To work under PGD or prescriber (if NMP) to treat patients for Sexually Transmitted infections and their contacts.

## Person Specification

### Skills and abilities

**Essential**

- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Sexual Health, Contraception and HIV related matters
- Ability to travel between hub/spoke sites according to service need
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of safeguarding complexities within sexual health including referral processes

**Desirable**

- Demonstrates good knowledge and understanding of Partner notification
- Has experience working under PGD's or NMP prescriber
- Has experience working with Lilie EPR system

### Qualifications and experience

**Essential**

- UK NMC Registered Nurse \[Adult\] OR extensive demonstrable experience at senior Health Advisor level within a UK Genitourinary Medicine Service
- Experience of health advising within a UK sexual health service OR similar relevant roles such as health promotion, safeguarding, working with young people, women’s health or counselling.

**Desirable**

- Nursing experience of recent working in a sexual health (GUM/CRH/HIV) service within the UK and following UK national guidelines at Band 5 or above OR completion of relevant Health- advising training course to support previous work as a senior Health Advisor within the UK
- Completion of a post registration course in HIV
- Completion of a recognised teaching/mentoring qualification
- Counselling skills qualification/Motivational interviewing
- Management Training course or equivalent experience
