Due to the retirement of the postholder, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to recruit a new Head of Radiotherapy Physics. The candidate must be a highly experienced radiotherapy physicist holding both HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist and RPA2000 registration as an MPE. Having HSSR would be an advantage. They must have extensive experience of managing diverse staff groups and significant project management experience within radiotherapy.

Nottingham Radiotherapy Centre serves a catchment population of about 1.2 million and provides highly specialist treatments to the rest of the East Midlands (including paediatric radiotherapy, SRS and pancreatic SABR). It has six Elekta linacs, including two new EVO linacs with IRIS imaging. Other services include a Papillon P+ contact therapy unit and image guided brachytherapy. Treatment planning is with RayStation.

### Main duties of the job

The Head of Radiotherapy Physics acts as Consultant Head of Service for the Radiotherapy Physics service, providing expert advice on radiotherapy techniques, service developments and the optimisation of radiotherapy. The post holder will act as Medical Physics Expert and manage a team of scientists and technicians responsible for the provision of the Radiotherapy Physics service to the Trust. The post holder will oversee the coordination of the research programme in Radiotherapy Physics and initiate research & development in that specialty. The post holder will supervise the training of clinical scientists and technologists and provide training for other staff groups as appropriate. The post-holder will form part of the multidisciplinary team providing radiotherapy services to patients within NUH; collaborating with clinicians and other staff over the strategic direction for radiotherapy and the optimal way to provide a high quality, patient centred radiotherapy service .service.

The post holder will primarily be based at the City Hospital campus.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive experience as a clinical scientist in Radiotherapy Physics in UK, or equivalent
- Expert knowledge in field
- Significant management experience
- Delivery of major radiotherapy projects (e.g. linac installation, TPS system)

**Desirable**

- Track record in R&D

### Training & Qualifications

**Essential**

- HCPC Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics) registration
- RPA2000 MPE registration (Radiotherapy Physics)
- PhD (or equivalent experience)

**Desirable**

- Higher Specialist Scientist Registration

### Analytical and Judgement Skills

**Essential**

- Interpretation of legislation/policy/complex test results where there is no precedent
- Be able to work within broad occupational policies and establish how these should be interpreted for the Trust
- Able to deal with complex and unpredictable situations
- Able to critically analyse conflicting results of measurements, data from literature etc.

### Planning and Organisation Skills

**Essential**

- Plan programmes of work that impact within own service and other services, involving a wide range of other professionals
- Able to propose, plan, programme, and manage continuing development of services

### Communication and Relationship Skills

**Essential**

- Presentation of highly complex scientific issues to large audiences and/or external organisations
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, liaising effectively with stakeholders
- Able to deliver teaching and training on complex subjects to both Medical Physics and other staff groups
- Able to negotiate changes to practice with other staff groups (Consultant Clinical Oncologists, Radiographers)
