The post holder will lead and manage the Mental Health Law Administration Team, foster strong working relationships with clinical services, and develop a Mental Health Law Hub as the central source of legal expertise, governance support and best practice.

- Lead and manage the Mental Health Law Administration Team, ensuring effective coordination of Mental Health Law processes Trust wide.
- Work closely with clinical areas to ensure lawful, safe, and compliant application of the law in line with Trust policy and national guidance.
- Develop, implement and oversee a Mental Health Law Hub as a central specialist resource for staff, leaders, and committees.
- Provide expert professional advice to the Trust Board and its committees on all matters relating to Mental Health Law and associated legislation.
- Plan, commission, deliver and evaluate Mental Health Law training programmes for all relevant staff, and partners.
- Lead the development, review and implementation of all Mental Health Law related policies, processes and governance systems.
- Oversee monitoring of Mental Health Law activity, trends and compliance, ensuring accurate reporting and supporting quality improvement.
- Maintain effective working relationships with clinical teams, Associate Hospital Managers, the Care Quality Commission and external bodies.
- Support responses to CQC reports, serious incidents, legal challenges and concerns related to Mental Health Law practice.

## Person Specification

### Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to assimilate and understand the work of the Trust in relation to mental health law, including its policy, operational issues and challenges.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Expert knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, associated domestic and European legislation, relevant statutory guidance and case law.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Successful track record of managing or assisting to manage a mental health law department.
- Sound experience of developing systems demonstrated by the ability for creative thinking and problem solving.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Educated to Masters level or equivalent in medico-legal subject
- Substantial training in mental health law matters
