Main duties of the job

  • Plan, design and implementation of small landscape gardening projects.
  • Operate petrol, electrical and hand – tool machinery and equipment.
  • Drive motorised grass cutting machinery and small tractor with trailer.
  • Observe safe working practices, showing due care and attention and being mindful of others in the vicinity of the working area.
  • Carry out digging, weeding, planting, tree lopping, pruning and watering of gardens and potted plants.
  • Diagnose and suitably treat disease, infestations of insects, vermin etc. that affect plants and trees.
  • Work predominantly outdoors but with some horticultural duties.
  • Assist in the gritting and snow clearance around the site.
  • Grass Cutting, Litter Picking, External Bin Emptying, Gritting, Keeping the site tidy, small landscape works.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Undertake further training as required to meet statutory requirements and the needs of the job.
  • Assist in the gritting and snow clearance around the site.
  • Ensure grounds, gardens, roads and paths are kept clean and tidy.
  • Assist in the collection of litter and emptying of cigarette trays in smoking shelters.
  • To assist with the cleansing / washing down of external and internal spillages to site roads, pathways and entrances.
  • Undertake other such duties as deemed necessary by the needs of the service provided by the department.
  • Carry out routine building work e.g. slabbing and bricklaying.
  • Prioritise and arrange day-to-day workload, unless given a direct instruction.
  • Carry re knowledge and experience with other members of the Estates Team.
  • Assist in the development of other staff and Trainees.
  • Be aware of the Trust’s Health and Safety Policy, understand and apply it to all work that is undertaken.
  • Take reasonable care of their own health and that of others who may be affected by their acts and omissions.
