The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with Mid-Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant Haematologist to join our team at Leighton Hospital.

This is a 10 PA per week role with on‑call commitments, working alongside three established consultants and a Lead Consultant to deliver a high‑quality, patient‑centred haematology service -including:

Three consultant clinics per week  - split between Haematology Oncology and classical Haematology Liaison haematology for MCHT inpatients Liaison haematology for GPs Participation in Christie network MDTs  Opportunities to develop a special interest with cross site working at The Christie in Withington

As part of this appointment, candidates applying directly (not via an agency) will receive a one‑off attraction payment of 20% of the first year’s salary, subject to remaining in post for a minimum of two years. Flexible working options may be considered.

### Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be responsible for providing consultant level support to The Christie clinical haematology service and to implement best practice in Haematology.

The role will include three outpatient clinics per week, responsibility for outpatients attending the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit for treatment and provision of specialist input into the care of inpatients at Leighton Hospital. The post holder will have considerable liaison with local General Practitioners for haematological advice and will join the existing consultant’s rota to manage this.

The post holder will be a core member of the haematology and lymphoma multi-disciplinary teams and the post also offers the opportunity to develop a special interest to suit the interests of the successful applicant and the unmet needs of the clinical haematology service.  A full and extensive overview of the responsibilities are detailed in the job description attached

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week for a Christie Clinical Haematologist based at  Leighton Hospital to provide clinical support to the Christie Haematology @ Leighton service.

The post will support the service to provide an excellent and high-quality patient focused service to meet the  demand from our patients and referring centres. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal  basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Role Purpose: This post is a collaborative venture between the Christie NHS Foundation Trust and MCHFT to support the clinical haematology services across the southern sector of the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network (GMCCN) and the delivery of clinical and laboratory haematology on the Leighton Hospital site.

The clinical haematology department based at Leighton Hospital is run by a highly motivated team providing outpatient, day care and inpatient service to BCSH level 2a.

The post will be based at Leighton Hospital. The post holder will be a core member of the Haematology and lymphoma multi-disciplinary teams and the post also offers the opportunity to develop a special interest to suit the interests of the successful applicant and the unmet needs of the Clinical haematology service.

The role will be responsible for:
- To develop and implement best practice in Haematology
- To support staff in the delivery of a high quality service
- To be a core member of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
- Membership on Hospital Transfusion Committee
- NEQAS film reporting Diagnostic Haematology service  Diagnostic services for MCHFT haematology and biochemistry services are provided by the NMCPS, with a view to utilise the Manchester HODs (haematology diagnostic system) for reporting of bone marrow aspirates, trephines and for cytogenetic and molecular studies.

### TRAINING

**Essential**

- Evidence of training and expertise in clinical and laboratory haematology

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- FRCP / MRCP or equivalent  AND  FRCPath or equivalent
- Full and specialist registration  (and a licence to practise) with  the General Medical Council  (GMC) (or eligible for  registration within six months  of interview)
- Applicants that are UK trained,  must ALSO be a holder of a  Certificate of Completion of  Training (CCT), or be within six  months of award of CCT by  date of interview. Applicants  that are non-UK trained, will be  required to show evidence of  equivalence to the UK CCT
