GESH Hospital Group | Financial Accounts*

This senior leadership role heads the Capital Accounting function across the GESH Hospital Group, taking responsibility for the accurate recording, reporting, and governance of all capital expenditure, fixed assets, leases, and charitable funds in line with IFRS, NHS policy, and GESH's Standing Financial Instructions.

The postholder provides expert technical advice to senior managers and operational teams, leads the capital sections of the annual accounts, manages internal and external audit processes, and plays a key role in annual capital planning and budgeting. The role also covers IFRS 16 lease accounting, PDC and capital funding advice, and monthly external returns to NHS regulators

A significant element of the role involves managing and developing the Capital Accounting Team, driving continuous improvement in systems, processes, and reporting, and deputising for the Group Head of Technical Accounts when required.

**Ideal candidates** will be fully CCAB or CIMA qualified, with substantial post-qualification experience in capital or financial accounting within a large, complex organisation, strong technical knowledge of IFRS and NHS financial frameworks, and proven team leadership skills. NHS experience is desirable.

### Main duties of the job

- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of capital accounting policies and procedures in line with GESH’s Standing Financial Instructions (SFIs), accounting standards, and national NHS guidance.
- Provide expert advice and professional oversight for all aspects of capital and fixed-asset accounting across GESH, ensuring consistent and compliant application of financial policies.
- Oversee the accounting and reporting of all capital projects, fixed assets, leases, and charitable funds, ensuring compliance with IFRS and NHS policy frameworks.
- Support GESH subsidiaries by providing technical guidance, implementing regulatory or system changes, and ensuring that robust governance and financial controls are maintained.
- Play a leading role in the annual capital planning and budgeting cycle, liaising with senior stakeholders across Estates, Infrastructure, IT, Medical Physics, and other operational teams to ensure realistic, evidence-based capital plans.
- Advise on sources of capital funding, including public dividend capital (PDC), lease financing, and managed service contracts, ensuring that accounting treatment and business-case assumptions comply with IFRS 16 and NHS Improvement requirements.
- Produce accurate and timely capital sections of the annual financial statements and monthly external returns, ensuring all audit requirements and reporting deadlines are met.

### Qualifications
