The post holder will support and lead on nursing workforce responsibilities, working alongside the Group Associate Director Nursing, Workforce and Professional Standards to facilitate the safe staffing of clinical areas.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will monitor, advise and support senior nursing colleagues to provide safe staffing and professional standards across both sites. They will assist the Group Associate Director of Nursing for Workforce and Professional Standards with the analysis of workforce levels, rosters and relevant financial data, contributing to workforce reports. They will have a working knowledge of inpatient establishment reviews and will be able to provide teaching and advice on the application of the Safer Nursing Care Tool.

- Deputise for the Group Associate Director of Nursing for Workforce and Professional Standards as required.
- Facilitate safe nurse staffing of clinical areas within the trust when required and contribute to projects relating to nursing workforce.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be confident in working with stakeholders, clinical and non-clinical at all levels within the organisation.
- Analyse and critique data and information to support decision-making and prioritisation of workload.

- The role will support the Group Associate Director of Nursing, Workforce and Professional Standards and senior nurses across the trust, to provide leadership in relation to workforce development, safe staffing and professional standards and exemplify positive behaviours and attitudes for nursing, supporting the aim that nursing staff demonstrate the right values, knowledge and skills required.
- Nursing Workforce
- Facilitate safe nurse staffing of clinical areas, giving advice and working with Heads of Nursing, Matrons and Ward Managers when required.
- Support the trust’s nursing roster review process, giving critique and analysis of staff rosters.
- Act as an expert and give teaching on the use of Safer Nursing Care Tool during establishment review periods.
- Support with nursing team establishment reviews.
- Lead on/ contribute to projects relating to nursing workforce including recruitment and retention.
- To provide robust workforce data as required for timely regular and ad hoc reports internally and externally.

- Prioritise workload and make necessary contributions to ensure delivery on workforce and professional standards improvement plans and support the development of future initiatives.
- Provide as required, reports and presentations for the trust’s committees outlining the current status of workforce and professional standards initiatives.
- Provide learning opportunities for staff on effective rota management; establishment reviews; recruitment and professional standards for wards and clinical areas both formally and informally.
- People Management, Professional Standards and Development
- To provide line management for delegated staff
- Working with Group and Site leadership colleagues to carry out 6 monthly skill mix reviews as required by the Group Chief Nurse, ensuring the established figures meet the needs of the service.
- To actively contribute to effective workforce planning and the production of a nursing workforce plan, ensuring that it is fit for purpose.
- To support staffing strategies developed to reduce vacancies, increase retention, decrease sickness and absence, decrease turnover and promote career development.
- Ensure all HR policies and procedures are followed.
- Maintain key working relationships to coordinate the recruitment and selection of the nursing and midwifery workforce.
- Work in close collaboration with the eRostering teams to ensure reports and metrics provided to the senior nursing teams, are useful and timely, ensuring that any future developments of existing electronic software are exploited to their full potential for the nursing and midwifery workforce.
- Support the Group Associate Director for Nursing, Workforce and Professional Standards in their role as senior nurse liaison for the Group’s temporary staffing providers, including monitoring of fill rates, relationships and any professional/personnel actions as required.
- Work with key colleagues at Site to develop and implement systems to reduce reliance and expenditure on temporary staffing.
- Ensure compliance with the Equality and Diversity Policy, supporting the delivery of the Race Equality Scheme and the duty to positively promote race equality and equality of opportunity for disabled people, ensuring services are responsive to the needs of equality groups.
- Support the revalidation process of registrants according to the NMC guidelines.
