We have an exciting opportunity for a Developmental Clinical Nurse Specialist - Nutrition to join St George’s, Epsom and St Helier NHS University Hospitals and Health Group.  The post is matched at Band 6 (Agenda for Change). The Trust is rated as Good by the CQC and we’d welcome applications from individuals committed to being part of the team to maintain and build on this.

We are looking for an experienced, motivated registered nurse with a passion for Nutrition and Patient Safety to join our Group Fundamental’s of Care Service. You will be employed by St Georges University Hospital however the role itself is based at both Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals (ESTH), and you will be flexibly working across both sites though a greater proportion of time will be expected at St Helier University Hospital where the team offices are located. The role also has presence within the community and on occasion you may need to support local community hospitals and District Nurse hubs so ability to travel is required.

The Nutrition Nursing service at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals consist of one Lead Nutrition Clinical Nurse Specialist and one Developmental Nutrition Clinical Nurse Specialist. You will work with colleagues to shape the nursing expertise so that patients and service users receive excellent care in line with national guidelines.  There is an opportunity for you to gain skills in the specialty of Nutrition with a structured development programme.

### Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work autonomously in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Specialist – Nutrition Lead (ESTH) and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a specialist Nutrition service (encompassing oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition) to adult patients and those transitioning into adult services requiring nutritional support, carers and health care professionals. Whilst the Lead Nutrition CNS will have oversight, this role is dynamic and involves patient assessment, clinical reasoning, support and training of ward staff, patients and carers, delivery of presentations, clinical audit and implementation of innovation within the field of Nutrition, acting as an information resource on the service in line with the role. You must have good time keeping and the ability to prioritise with ease across the breadth of the role functions, including clinical, administrative, education, quality improvement and research. Excellent communication and team working is key in this role.

This role involves travel between our two acute hospital sites in addition to community presence. To support the needs of the service, you may occasionally be asked to move between sites at short notice, so flexibility is essential.

The role is full‑time with a clinical on‑site presence, Monday to Friday, with five 7.5‑hour shifts worked within the service’s core hours of 8am to 5pm.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Relevant experience at Band 5 RN in an acute hospital setting
- Considerable post graduate nursing experience
- In depth knowledge and experience of working with a variety of patients including those with complex needs
- Experience of communicating difficult or complex information to healthcare professionals / patients and relatives.
- Teaching/supervision of other Healthcare Professionals

**Desirable**

- Experience as a senior nurse or Band 6 RN in an acute setting
- Involvement with nursing research
- Clinical audit experience
- Understanding of budgetary management
- Experience of working in primary & community care
- Teaching qualification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse Degree
- Post registration course / diploma in relevant speciality
- Mentorship and Preceptorship course

**Desirable**

- Nutrition Support Course / Module
- Recognised Teaching and Assessing certificate
