### Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, motivated and supportive team of Genetic Counsellors in the East Anglian Clinical Genetics Service. The post will include a broad caseload of cancer, general and prenatal genetics.

This post is for a permanent 1.0 WTE Band 7 registered Genetic Counsellor. We will consider applications from STP trainees in Genomic Counselling due to complete their training and register in 2026, or applicants who have already completed a relevant Masters in Genetic/Genomic Counselling. A successful candidate who is eligible for registration but not yet registered at the time of starting the post would be appointed under Annex 21 terms.

Interviews will be held virtually on 14th August and applicants are welcome to arrange a visit in advance.

### Main duties of the job

- To provide a high quality genetic counselling service at regional specialist level and support families with a genetic disorder
- To comprehend and communicate the medical and scientific facts including the diagnosis, probable course of the disorder and the risk of recurrence in specified relatives
- To support patients and families in their decision making
- To participate in education of other healthcare professionals
- To work autonomously and as part of a team

- Ability to talk to patients and relatives about complex and sensitive clinical issues
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
- Capable of working as an integral member of a small team
- Flexible and adaptable to changing situations due workload and colleagues’ needs
- Able to work unsupervised and manage own workload with effective time-management

**Desirable**

- Effective use of IT and electronic patient records
- Leadership skills

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge of Clinical Genetics
- Understanding of evidence-based practice
- Understanding of Clinical Governance

- Previous relevant publications

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant relevant experience in Clinical Genetics
- Experience of initiating & delivering change
- Experience of MDT working

**Desirable**

- Previous work within the NHS
- Experience in cancer, cardiac, prenatal and general genetics
- Experience of formal/informal teaching and mentoring

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Current AHCS registration as a Genetic Counsellor or Current HCPC registration as a Genomic Counsellor
