The General Transport Services (GTS) Department at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is seeking to recruit both a Full-Time and a Part-Time GTS Driver.

Applicants must hold a full, clean UK driving licence. A D1 entitlement is desirable but not essential.

The available posts are:

- Full-Time: 37.5 hours per week
- Part-Time: 24 hours per week

Both positions will be worked over 5 days per week, Monday to Sunday, in line with a rota. Shifts will fall between the earliest start time of 07:30 and the latest finish time of 19:30.

The successful candidates will be responsible for supporting essential transport services across the Trust, including the delivery and collection of pathology samples, pharmacy supplies, medical records, post, linen, and clinical and general waste, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible, reliable, friendly and prepared to work as a team. Full training will be given.

### Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

- Transporting clean and soiled linen, medical supplies, and stock between Trust sites, hospitals, GP practices, and other healthcare facilities.
- Collecting and delivering equipment, medical records, confidential documents, and correspondence.
- Collecting and transporting clinical waste across Trust sites and healthcare locations throughout the West Midlands.
- Collecting and delivering pathology specimens from clinics, GP surgeries, health centres, and hospital departments in accordance with relevant handling procedures.
- Delivering radioactive gases and associated materials to hospitals across the UK, ensuring compliance with all relevant transport and safety regulations.
- Undertaking vehicle safety checks and ensuring vehicles are maintained in a clean and roadworthy condition.
- Working independently as a lone worker whilst adhering to Trust policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
- Ensuring all deliveries and collections are completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed schedules and service standards.

This role requires a reliable and flexible individual who can work independently, demonstrate good communication skills, and maintain a professional approach when interacting with staff and external organisations.

### Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrable driving experience and able to demonstrate a high standard of driving skills.
- Experience of driving vans up to3 ½ ton
- Experience of driving in Sandwell and Birmingham area

**Desirable**

- Experience in Multi Drop an advantage.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full Clean Driving Licence
- You must have the D1 Category on your driving licence and be over 25 for insurance purposes
- Qualification in transporting or willingness to learn

**Desirable**

- Member of Rospra
- Advanced Driving Course

### Physical skills

**Essential**

- Must be physically fit to be able to undertake lifting and handling of goods, equipment including furniture, large Eurocarts (Large bins), and full roll cages.

### Personal Qualities

**Essential**

- Must be punctual and have a flexible attitude to the ad hoc nature of the service
