This post is an opportunity to work within the Hepato-pancreatico-biliary (HPB)/ Neuro-Endocrine Tumor (NET) disease group. This post involves working as a physician under consultant supervision in a HPB/NET outpatient clinic on a Thursday afternoon and/or a Friday morning. These clinics see a combination of new and follow up patients for review, undergoing chemotherapy and targeted therapies.

### Main duties of the job

The duties and responsibilities of the role, which may be adjusted in the light of changing/developing priorities, include:

- Attendance and review of patients in weekly HPB/NET clinics on a Thursday afternoons and/or Friday Mornings.
- Maintaining knowledge of local, national and international developments in diagnosis and treatment of HPB/NET malignancies through attendance at HPB/NET clinics and reading relevant publications, as appropriate.
- Become familiar with ongoing HPB/NET clinical trials, as appropriate (for context when seeing outpatients in clinic).
- Provide a point of contact for General Practitioners as a community expert in the field of HPB/NET.
- Potential for setting up and coordinating training days for General Practitioners in the specialty of HPB/NET, if desired.
- Potential for maintenance and update of educational material/training for General Practitioners, if desired.
- Maintaining knowledge of local, national and international developments in diagnosis and treatment of HPB/NET through attendance at conferences, as appropriate.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The roles will suit one or two GPs with a keen interest in gaining further experience in the field of HPB and NET through attendance at a once-weekly outpatient clinic on a Thursday afternoon and/or new patient clinic on Friday mornings.

The disease sites treated include Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (composed of hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreas cancer and biliary tract cancers \[cholangiocarcinoma, gallbladder and ampullary cancers\]). The group has an active clinical research program with close links to basic research laboratories in the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Manchester Institute.   There is an established record of clinical research in the HPB/NET disease group, and the group have an international reputation in the treatment of advanced HPB/NET malignancies.

There are around 400 new HPB/NET referrals received per year for consideration of systemic treatment (chemotherapy and targeted therapies).  The post holder will acquire experience in the oncological management of patients diagnosed with HPB/NET malignancies.

The Consultants include Professor Dr Richard Hubner, Dr Mairéad McNamara, Victoria Foy, Nadina Tinsley and Alicia Conway.  There are also clinical fellows, a specialist registrar, nurse clinicians, a pharmacist, clinical nurse specialists, research nurses, project managers and clinical trial administrators working within the HPB/NET disease group.
