We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team, working closely with the clinical team for this new role.

General Practice Assistant is an exciting role supporting our GP's in the smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine tasks, freeing them to focus on the patients.

Ideally looking for full time but would consider two people for a part time job share but would need to be willing to cover the counterpart for holiday and sick leave etc

We have 1 position available and whilst mainly based at King Street Medical Centre, you will be required to work at our other sites as needed and may involve supporting our Care Home Team mainly for housebound patients but full training will be provided.

### Main duties of the job

We have an exciting new position available for an experienced medical administrator to take on the role of General Practice Assistant (GPA) for our busy surgeries to help make a positive impact on our local community.

The successful applicant will support the GPs in the smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine tasks on behalf of the GP thereby freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

Our clinical team includes 10 partners, 8 salaried GP's, 4 Clinical Practitioners, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 2 Prescribing Pharmacists, 5 Paramedics and a full cohort of Practice Nurses, HCA's and other GPA's.

We have a good team of Managers along with a Chief Operating Officer along with good admin support at each site.

We have 5 sites and this position will be based at one of our Cottingham sites. We have 2 sites in Cottingham and 3 in Beverley.

### Job responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the General Practice Assistant role will include:

Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow-up appointments for patients

Preparing patients before seeing the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.

Dipping urine and taking blood pressure, ECGs and phlebotomy. Enhanced training can be provided for the right applicant and we would train them to also administer patient injections under PSD's.

Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign e.g mortgage or insurance forms

Explaining treatment procedures to patients, including arranging follow up appointments if required.

Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies, e.g., getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).

## Person Specification

### GCSE C or above English and Maths or equiavalent

**Essential**

- At least Grade C GCSE or equivalent
- Ability to be flexible and have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills and be good at record keeping

- Able to multi-task, work hard and maintain high level of attention to detail when under pressure.
- Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as comfortable working independently.
- Some flexibility is required as you will sometimes need to work additional/alternative hours to cover for colleagues.
