### Job overview

A Gardener in the Estates Maintenance Department will form part of an integrated team whose role is to provide the best possible service to the Trust.

### Main duties of the job

They will carry out work of routine and non-routine nature as directed by management.  Ensure compliance with Trust Safety Standard and Procedures.  Taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.

Each Gardener will have individual responsibilities for defined aspects of the service and will ensure that their contribution is beneficial to other departments within the Trust, as well as the Estates and Facilities Department to fulfill the Trust’s overall objectives.

Please see the attached Applicant Information Pack (combined Job Description and Person Specification) for key duties and responsibilities.  As per Home Office guidelines, please be aware that, unfortunately, the Trust is unable to offer sponsorship for this particular position.

Due to Home Office immigration rules, a full time permanent vacancy cannot be filled by individuals on a Student visa. Therefore, please be advised that if you are a Student visa holder, we will not be able to offer you a full time permanent contract unless you have: -    applied for a Graduate visa -    or you will have successfully completed your course and have applied for a Graduate visa before the anticipated start date of your employment -    or the Trust has agreed that they will Sponsor you as a Skilled Worker and you will complete your studies within 3 months of the anticipated start date of employment  This vacancy will close at midnight on the 15th June 2026.

Interviews are due to be held on the 25th June 2026.

## Person Specification

### Skills

**Essential**

- To be able to use garden machinery and tools.
- Able to communicate with internal and external customers at all levels.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Horticulture and gardening knowledge.
- Knowledge of plants and shrubs.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Garden Design – domestic or public spaces.
- Previous gardening experience.
- Basic industrial work experience.

**Desirable**

- Working in an outside environment.
- NHS experience

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- NVQ level 2 Horticulture or equivalent experience.
- NVQ level 2 for driving tractor and attaching machinery or equivalent experience Full UK driving licence.

**Desirable**

- Chemical Spraying certificate PA1 & PA6.

### Additional Requirements

**Essential**

- The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of safe, kind, excellent.
- Must be able to meet the demands of the post.
