### Job summary

INTERNAL APPLICANTS FROM BHNFT AND TRFT ONLY

As the Trusts Freedom to Speak Up Guardian you will act as the expert and professional resource for colleagues on all aspects of practice relating to the Freedom to Speak Up agenda, and associated cultural change; to encourage embedding of best practice in enabling and supporting trust staff to raise concerns where they see evidence of risk, wrongdoing and unsafe practice.

You will work alongside Trust leadership teams to support the organisation in becoming a more open and transparent place to work, where all staff are actively encouraged and enabled to speak up safely.

You will have experience of leadership in an operational function obtained from working in an acute NHS environment, a clinical background although not essential would be desirable. This is a senior leadership role leading on developing and delivering Freedom to Speak Up culture & engagement programmes, relevant policies & procedures and training for staff, regularly meeting with and producing reports for Trust Board Leads for Speaking Up and reporting directly to the Chief People Officer.

### Main duties of the job

Ensure that all staff are aware of, & have access to,support to help them

Develop & manage the work of a network of FTSU Champions, to ensure that FTSU reaches all parts of the organisation

Ensure that all staff have the relevant skills & knowledge to enable them to speak up effectively,& those supporting, managing or investigating speaking up issues have the capability & knowledge to do this effectively

Develop & implement data processes to ensure safe & appropriate management and protection of information & data relating to concerns that are raised across the organisation, in line with national & local information governance guidelines

Develop strong & open working relationships with the CEO, NEDs & other Directors, with direct access to Trust leaders as required. Attend Trust Board twice yearly to report on Freedom to Speak Up activities.

Take immediate appropriate action when matters that people are speaking up about,indicate that safety & quality may be compromised

Be an innovative, enthusiastic role model providing leadership, guidance & advice to staff on speaking up issues, promoting an open & honest & transparent culture

Lead on embedding & delivery of the FTSU Vision & Strategy

Develop & lead training programmes to promote and embed the FTSU agenda, in partnership with colleagues in the Learning & OD Department.

Identify training needs and develop training resources for FTSU Champions to enable role development & to meet the needs of the service
