### Job overview

We have an opportunity for a highly motivated Dietitian to join our friendly and pro-active Nutrition and Dietetics Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.

This permanent post offers an enthusiastic Dietitian with passion and experience working in frailty an opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge and provide a high quality dietetic service.

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely and collaboratively with members of the frailty multidisciplinary team including consultants, specialist nurses and allied health professionals to provide care across acute community sites. The successful candidate will be passionate and motivated to develop the service and care for the most vulnerable people.

### Main duties of the job

- To be responsible for providing a specialist dietetic service across Gateshead, to the older adult population of Gateshead who are malnourished or at risk of malnutrition secondary to long term conditions such as COPD, dementia, pressure damage etc.
- Work within a range of settings including outpatient clinics, care homes, patients own homes and where appropriate in reach within the acute setting.
- To act as a clinical specialist within the area of frailty;  working within a multiagency team including specialist nurses, consultants, Frailty team,  Care homes, GP’s and other Allied Health Professions (AHP’s).
- To be responsible for co-ordinating and developing the Dietetic frailty service for adults within Gateshead.
- To provide clinical education to health care professionals and other appropriate agencies across Gateshead, in many settings.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Relevant post graduate clinical experience within community dietetics
- Experience of working in, and enthusiasm for the specialism of frailty
- Evidence of team working
- Experience of audit/ data collection
- Experience of training and supervision of student dietitians

**Desirable**

- High level of expertise in the specialist area of frailty
- Experience of service development or research
- Experience of supporting and developing staff e.g. supervision, teaching, mentoring etc

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Degree or post graduate diploma/ masters in Nutrition and Dietetics
- Current HCPC registration

**Desirable**

- Teaching qualification
- PENG masters module or relevant equivalent
- Member of BDA

### Personal Qualities

**Essential**

- Ability to show initiative and work autonomously to develop services
- Flexible/ adapt easily to new situations
- Professional role model
- Able to meet travel requirements of the post

**Desirable**

- Motivation to identify new ways to provide education and training

### Skills and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Demonstrate a good working knwoledge of frailty and underlying health conditions
- Competent to manage nutritional support and enteral feeding regimes in adults
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to show a problem solving approach

**Desirable**

- Completion of counselling skills/ behaviour change course
- Member of relevant BDA specialist interest group
