### Job overview

The service provides opportunity for a patient pathway through services for male patients who have been identified with major and complex mental health needs requiring treatment in a low secure environment.  Referrals are received countywide from acute psychiatric services, community mental health teams and other secure services/prisons throughout the country.  The client demographic is adult males 18 – 65 and will include people who are subject to Part 3 of the Mental Health Act, including Restricted patients. Wheatfield unit has a close working relationship with the adjacent ward, Meadowbank and PICU.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge and Experience

**Essential**

- - MRCPsych or equivalent
- - Full GMC Registration
- - On Specialist Register/CCT in Forensic
- - Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry with appropriate forensic experience (eg.one year forensic attachment as higher trainee) or eligible for inclusion within six months.
- - Minimum of six years postgraduate experience (including three years as SpR in approved training post) or equivalent
- - Part of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training.
- - Approval under Section12 of the Mental Health Act

**Desirable**

- - Additional Postgraduate Qualifications
- - Publication of original research Management training

- - Excellent written and verbal communication skills and evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
- - Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences including courts and tribunals
- - Ability to motivate and develop junior Medical Staff and other MDT members
- - An understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate
- - Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- - An understanding of the use of security in the treatment of psychiatric patients
- - An understanding of the dynamics of working with damaged and disturbed patients.
- - Awareness of the national agenda for secure psychiatric care and criminal justice.

**Desirable**

- - Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
- - Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
- Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation
