### Job overview

We are looking to recruit a part-time float Ward Clerk (22.5 Hours p/w - Friday – Sunday. 08:00 – 16:00 TBC). The role of the Float Ward Clerk is vital to the BRHC as you will play an important role in ensuring high standards of administrative governance on a variety of our busy inpatient wards.

Responsibilities will include acting as the patient’s first point of contact on the ward(s), greeting and signposting patients and relatives, processing patients using CareFlow, liaising with colleagues to facilitate a smooth and timely stay with the hospital, and sending out patient information

### Main duties of the job

Responsibilities will include acting as the patient’s first point of contact on the ward(s), greeting and signposting patients and relatives, processing patients using CareFlow, liaising with colleagues to facilitate a smooth and timely stay with the hospital, and sending out patient information.  The maintenance of paper and electronic records is also a key element of this role. This right candidate will be responsible for setting high standards of patient care

Interpersonal and communication skills

- To liaise with patients, clinical staff, GPs and Trust support staff in person, via telephone and email as and when necessary.
- To show a caring and professional approach towards patients and visitors when carrying out all duties.
- Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the role’s line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience using Microsoft Office

**Desirable**

- Previous experience of customer-facing work in a healthcare or public setting
- Previous NHS experience
- Experience using hospital-based IT systems
- Clerical/administration experience – preferably including reception work

### Personal Qualities

**Essential**

- Flexible approach to duties
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work within a team
- Ability to work independently
- Honesty

**Desirable**

- Able to communicate clearly and act quickly in emergency

### Education and Qualification
