### Job overview

The successful post holder will work as part of the Urgent Care Response Service team, undertaking an initial triage assessment and working with individuals to support risk management and safety plans for people in crisis.

The role will also include signposting and referring to appropriate services, and there is an expectation that the post holder will build strong links with 3rd sector and partner agencies to collaboratively support the needs of an individuals in crisis.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

*  Work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team liaising with other teams within the First Response Service, the wider organisation and various third sector organisations.

*  Provide a triage and signposting service for patients contacting the crisis line in a self-defined mental health crisis, escalating when appropriate.

*  Will engage with people who are in a crisis situation and enable effective decision-making to ensure safety.

*  Will assist in the formulation and delivery of safety plans working in a collaborative way.

*  Ensure accurate record keeping and participate in audits, data collection and other administrative duties when required.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- An understanding of confidentiality issues and how they relate to mental health policy and practise interventions
- Sound knowledge of current professional staff development and continuous service improvement issues particularly in context to adult mental health services
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and implementation of anti-discriminatory practise
- Demonstrate an understanding of care plans including risk management planning and safety plans
- Demonstrate an understanding of supervision
- Demonstrate knowledge of the support workers role within CPA
- The ability to communicate complex and sensitive information where barriers to understanding may exist for example requiring empathy and reassurance
- The ability to make judgments involving a range of facts or situations requiring analysis and comparison of a range of options also skills for assessing individuals on the phone

**Desirable**

- An understanding of a psychosocial approach
- Knowledge of mental health legislation and policies
- Ability to use spreadsheets databases for example excel access
- Evidence of having published in either peer review or academic or professional journals

### Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrate experience working in a mental health environment
- Previous experience working with adults and severe mental health
- Experience of partnership working with service users carers and other agencies

**Desirable**

- Experience of working within crisis settings
- Experience of working on support lines

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- NVQ Level 3 in health and social care or equivalent experience

**Desirable**

- Honours degree in psychology Advanced IT and keyboard skills
- Related academic qualifications
