Join our Resilience Directorate in this newly established management role, where you will play a key part in keeping patients, staff and visitors safe across Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust.

As Fire and Health & Safety Manager, you will provide strategic advice, operational leadership and assurance across fire safety and health and safety. You will help the Trust meet its legal, regulatory and policy requirements while supporting services to identify, manage and reduce risk.

Working across the Trust, you will influence and support managers at all levels to strengthen safety standards, respond to incidents and risks, deliver agreed priorities and promote a positive culture of health and safety.

You will also lead and develop the Fire, Health and Safety Team, creating effective ways to engage colleagues and raise awareness across our workforce.

The Resilience Directorate provides specialist support across areas including emergency planning, major incident management, CQC compliance, medical devices, interpreting and patient and staff logistics.

### Main duties of the job

As Fire and Health & Safety Manager, you will:

- Lead the implementation, review and continuous improvement of Trust fire and health and safety policies, procedures, guidance and associated workstreams.
- Develop and oversee a comprehensive programme of inspections and audits across Trust sites, ensuring compliance with policies, KPIs, national requirements and new legislation.
- Act as the Trust’s designated Fire and Health & Safety Manager, advising services on the identification, assessment and management of risks and monitoring local action plans.
- Lead the Trust’s RIDDOR reporting processes, ensuring information is appropriately gathered, reviewed and escalated.
- Lead the development and delivery of staff training, briefings and guidance in partnership with the Trust Academy and relevant specialists.
- Build effective relationships with external organisations, including the Health and Safety Executive, fire and rescue services and auditors.
- Represent the Trust at relevant senior internal and external meetings on behalf of the Director of Resilience.
- Lead, manage and develop the Fire, Health and Safety Team, ensuring effective objectives, supervision, appraisal and professional development.

You will work collaboratively across the Trust to promote a proactive safety culture and support continuous improvement in fire and health and safety standards.

### Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant experience in health and safety, fire safety or safety compliance within a complex organisation.
- Experience reviewing incidents, near misses, risk assessments and improvement plans
- Experience preparing reports, briefings and assurance updates for governance groups or senior managers.

**Desirable**

- Experience working across a complex estate or multi site organisation.

- Able to work independently within agreed objectives.
- Able to communicate calmly and clearly on complex or sensitive issues

### Skills & Knowledge

**Essential**

- Good working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and relevant associated regulations
- Specialist working knowledge of fire safety legislation and relevant healthcare fire safety guidance.
- Ability to produce clear written reports, briefings and action updates

**Desirable**

- Understanding of CQC expectations relating to safe environments

### Education/Qualification

**Essential**

- NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ Level 6, NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Degree level qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Root cause analysis training or willingness to complete.

**Desirable**

- Fire safety qualification relevant to healthcare or complex premises.
