### Job overview

We are seeking a Financial Analyst who is looking to develop a career in NHS Finance and work towards becoming a qualified accountant.

As part of the Financial Management team, the successful candidate will demonstrate a clear interest in NHS Finance, together with strong analytical, communication and teamwork skills. Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyse large volumes of data are essential.

Reporting to a Divisional Finance Manager, the role will provide analytical support to the Financial Management team and budget holders, helping to identify key financial issues and ensure accurate month-end accruals. To include supporting budget management, budget setting, financial reporting and a range of finance-related activities, all delivered within strict month-end and year-end deadlines.

Applicants should either have experience in a management accounting environment, including month-end reporting, or be able to demonstrate through their application and interview a sound understanding of management accounting gained through degree-level study or experience.

### Main duties of the job

- Preparation of data and information for the monthly reporting process
- Maintenance of the budgets for specific areas to be covered by this post
- Confirmation of budget when recruitment occurs
- Clear error suspense items that are rejected by the finance system
- Variance analyses to ascertain reasons for over and underspends
- Budget and actuals uploads onto the Financial General Ledger
- Being a part of the annual Business Planning and Budget-setting process
- Maintain Pay budgets, and update as required
- Any other financial work as required
- Work with budget-holders, as well as colleagues within Finance
- Advisory/Contact:
- Liaise with other members of the Finance team
- Liaise with some budget-holders, across Corporate and Clinical areas
- Liaise with some Procurement staff regarding orders, costs and authorisations
- Liaise with Human Resources staff– re recruitment and Pay budget etc questions
- Liaise with IT and other Corporate areas
- Liaise with Trust Auditors
- General:
- Support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work
- To have responsibility for Health, Safety and Welfare of self and others and comply at all times with the requirements of the Health and Safety Regulations
- Ensure that Mandatory Training is completed as required
- Maintain a smart appearance, and wear an ID Badge
- To work across site occasionally if required

### Skills

**Essential**

- Able to explain complex data and information issues, offer advice to assist in sound decision making and recommend actions
- Flexible approach working within a large organisation
- Methodical approach and accuracy in data input and calculation

### Experience

**Essential**

- Some previous experience working management accounts, or ability to demonstrate degree level experience and understanding of management accounting in application and interview
- Knowledge of financial systems and accounting processes
- Previous experience of data manipulation (with large data sets) or ability to demonstrate degree level experience and understanding of working with large data sets in application and interview

**Desirable**

- Previous experience within the NHS
- Prior experience with Oracle Financials software.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- A degree, AAT Certificate, or equivalent experience
- Good Excel spreadsheet skills

**Desirable**

- Studying toward CCAB qualification, or wishing to commence study towards CCAB qualification
