The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications from experienced midwives, with significant relevant midwifery experience for this opportunity for a Band 7 Fetal Monitoring Midwife to work within the hospital setting.

We are a friendly, supportive team and will provide a robust orientation programme so that you are able to have an insight into each clinical area from day one. This will be supported by the Practice Development Team who will also provide you with opportunities for continuing professional development and support in this role and throughout your career.

We provide one to one care to all women in established labour and are really proud to have achieved and maintained BFI Level 3 accreditation and were rated as good in our most recent CQC inspection. We are an ambitious department, with plans in place to continue to develop and improve the service we offer.

As Norfolk’s largest midwifery service, we provide care for approximately 4,800 deliveries per year.

### Main duties of the job

Our in-patient facilities include 32 postnatal beds incorporating 8 transitional care beds, and 14 antenatal beds. The Delivery Suite has 13 birthing rooms including a birthing pool, and a bereavement suite.   Facilities also include 2 obstetric theatres, anaesthetic rooms and a 2 bedded recovery bay. We also provide a Maternity Triage area which is a 4 bedded bay, a single room and a rapid assessment room. We have a co-located Midwifery Led Birthing Unit which comprises of four birthing rooms with waterbirth facilities available.  The NNUH supports a high level of fetal surveillance and offers a high-quality Fetal Medicine Service, and we are a Maternal Medicine Centre.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, and emotionally resilient midwife who possesses excellent proven organisational, management and communication skills. You will need to demonstrate high levels of professionalism at all times, acting as an exemplary role model and open to embracing positive change and transformation of maternity services to meet the needs of the local population of birthing people.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will act as a role model demonstrating clinical leadership and midwifery expertise in relation to reducing perinatal mortality, in line with the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle (Safety Action 5).

Promote effective team working, review, plan, implement and maintain elements 2 and 4 of the bundle whilst engaging teams in a consistent approach to improving patient experience and outcomes.

Lead, development and implement the educational programme aimed at equipping midwives and doctors to increase and improve knowledge and competence in intrapartum risk assessment, CTG interpretation and assessing fetal wellbeing, identifying potential and actual fetal compromise in all clinical settings.

You will improve clinical decision making within the team ensuring consistency across the unit is achieved demonstrating a reduction of serious incidents associated with CTG interpretation. You will work closely with the obstetric and midwifery educational leads to embed a robust programme of competency and development of staff providing intrapartum care in all settings.

Clinical experience in all aspects of midwifery care is prerequisite, demonstrating credibility as a good role model. Excellent communication skills are paramount to the success of the role.

You should be aware of the process for reviewing systems and improving them, to increase patient safety and improve the service provided by the Trust. A pro-active commitment to maintain and deliver an evidence-based approach to practice and new innovations is key to this role.  You will be working with staff, undertaking audit, developing guidelines and standards, ensuring robust data collection, proactively supporting learning from incidents. Monitoring compliance with local and national requirements and participating in regional reviews.

You will have a first-degree qualification or be working towards this level of education. Mentorship/Practice assessor qualification (or equivalent) at this level is essential.
