Are you interested in cardiorespiratory care? Looking for a new challenge If so, we could have the job for you. We have 2 posts in the Directorate of Rehabilitation and Therapies offers the opportunity for an established Band 6, or experienced Band 5 physiotherapist to join our dynamic team at Harefield Hospital, Middlesex and to develop further clinically, supervising junior staff and students and contributing to key departmental projects.

The successful physiotherapist will join the other Band 6 physiotherapists, rotating every 9 months through critical care (including ECMO), cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology, transplantation and ventricular assist devices. They will be treating this variety of cardiothoracic conditions in the critical care, ward and outpatient settings.

### Main duties of the job

This person will need good organisational and communication skills and the ability to work as a member of a team. Experience of delivering group exercise sessions and exercise testing would be advantageous. There is regular supervision, training and support from highly skilled senior physiotherapists to address learning needs and they will be expected to work closely with the other members of the MDT.  This is an excellent opportunity for a physiotherapist who is enthusiastic and interested in developing their expertise in cardiothoracic care.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work across Harefield Hospital in a range of ward and out-patient settings, to provide a specialist physiotherapy service to patients in cardio-thoracic surgery / cardiology, transplantation, respiratory medicine, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation.

To independently perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of inpatients and outpatients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions to provide a diagnosis and deliver an individualised and specialised treatment programme of care.

To manage own clinical/non clinical caseload and be responsible for a defined area of service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training, clinical reasoning sessions and peer review. Access to advice and support from a senior physiotherapist is available via a bleep system if required. Clinical work is not routinely evaluated.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner with freedom to act on own interpretation of data.

To supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with Universities to ensure standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by degree level qualification.

To supervise, educate and appraise the performance/competence of junior physiotherapists on a daily basis.

## Person Specification

### Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to assess and treat patients in cardiorespiratory field.
- Ability to pass on skills/knowledge to others within both formal and informal environments

**Desirable**

- Participation in audit and research
- Experience in the supervision of students and assistants / more junior members of staff

### Experience

**Essential**

- A variety of post graduate experience at Band 5
- Cardiorespiratory experience and good theoretical knowledge of physiotherapy in cardiorespiratory field

**Desirable**

- Relevant validated clinical courses
- Knowledge and experience in the use of a wide range of airway clearance techniques, non-invasive ventilation.
- Experience of working in cardiac rehabilitation and attendance at BACPR courses

### Knowledge/Qualifications

**Essential**

- Degree BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy
- Health Professions Council State registration

**Desirable**

- Member of specialist interest group i.e ACPRC or ACPICR
- Experience at B6
