Exercise Physiologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts.  We are looking for exercise physiologists who are ready for new challenges and seeking opportunities to join our prehabilitation team.

We are pleased to be expanding our well-established team to continue providing a trust wide prehabilitation service.  The successful post holders will hold a key role in the on-going development and running of a multidisciplinary prehabilitation service.  The post-holders will work to deliver a trust-wide service that will not only reduce complications from hospital treatment but aim to improve patients’ long-term health as they adopt lifestyle changes. The post-holders will also work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary teams including attending a novel hepato-pancreato-biliary cancer clinic with surgeons, clinical nurse specialists and anaesthetists.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Up to date knowledge of principles of Prehabilitation and supporting evidence.
- High level knowledge of existing exercise testing and prescription guidelines specific to long-term conditions.
- Demonstrable and competent knowledge of exercise physiology and impact of varied clinical pathologies.
- Recognise scope of practice and boundaries of own responsibilities.

**Desirable**

- Understanding of different anti-cancer treatments and the side-effects that may impact intervention.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of managing a caseload of patients and working in a timely manner
- Experience of planning and executing face-to-face and home-based exercise programmes, analysing outcomes and adapting as required
- Experience of using motivation interviewing techniques to people with long term conditions.

**Desirable**

- Experience of delivering exercise intervention to people with cancer and other long-term conditions.
- Experience of data collection and analysis to evaluate outcomes.
- Experience or knowledge of prehabilitation / rehabilitation services.
- Participation in Research/Audit.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- BSc in Exercise Science/Sports Science or equivalent
- MSc in Clinical Exercise Physiology or equivalent
- Training in motivational interviewing and/or health coaching

**Desirable**

- Registration with AHCS – Clinical Exercise Physiologist
- Cancer rehabilitation qualification.
- Intermediate Life Support Skills.

- Skills / personal attributes & abilities
- Ability to support senior colleagues in designing and implementing training programmes and research & audit activities
- Able to demonstrate a commitment and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs.
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of data protection and patient confidentiality.
- High level of computer literacy with good use of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel and Outlook applications.
- Pays attention to detail and consistently produces accurate work
- Ensures personal, professional behaviour and integrity at all times
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
