A thrilling opportunity has arisen at Homerton Healthcare NHS Trust for a passionate and experienced midwife to join the Homerton Maternity team as an Equity & Inclusion Specialist Midwife at the Trust. The successful candidate will work alongside the current person in post as a job share.

We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills, who is a motivational leader, and is not afraid of change.

The successful candidate will have a remit to support the maternity leadership team to assess, review and identify ways of reducing health inequalities within the local maternity population. Similarly, they will work with the Trust EDI and People Teams and with maternity leaders to understand and develop strategies to improve the employment experiences of marginalised staff.

They will use strong analytical and innovation skills to plan new ways of working and support the implementation of these changes.

They will also work directly with clients on improving patient experience for marginalised groups, which is intrinsically linked to safe care and successful engagement from our local communities.

### Main duties of the job

- The postholder will have a remit to identify and engage pregnant people and their families who are experiencing/at risk of health inequalities
- The postholder will work to identify improvement strategies in response to national reports highlighting increased maternal mortality for Black, Asian and Minority ethnic (BAME) pregnant people, those living in poverty or complex social circumstances, and others with protected characteristics
- The postholder will establish effective and trusted channels of communication with pregnant people and their families, ensuring all midwives are aware of services and pathways being developed and offered. This will result in our patient experience being improved, in line with national and local guidance
- Local data and service user feedback will be used to support the development of an action plan for effective ongoing care for pregnant people experiencing health inequalities to ensure safety, well-being and positive birth experiences
- The post holder will liaise with the full range of maternity healthcare professionals, including the: Trust Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead; Maternity & Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP); and Local Maternity and Neonatal System, as well as other relevant stakeholders
- The postholder will have a remit in supporting the maternity unit to understand the experiences of marginalised staff groups and liaise with the senior teams and the wider Trust to help develop strategies to improve this

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality issues, including NMC Code of Practice
- Understanding the needs of those from marginalised groups, and those at risk of or experiencing health inequalities
- Understanding of wider NHS agenda and drivers for change, including a detailed knowledge of current midwifery issues
- Knowledge of clinical governance and patient feedback and engagement processes
- A specialist interest in and passion for reducing health inequalities

### Experience

**Essential**

- Completed preceptorship and has experience of working all areas of midwifery
- Evidence of delivering high quality teaching to staff and patient groups
- Experience of working across agencies
- Audit experience

**Desirable**

- Previous experience within similar role at Band 7 or equivalent
- Demonstrate experience of working with and advocating for marginalised groups

- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate at all levels within MDT

- Developed IT skills with good understanding of Windows applications and clinical record systems

- Registered midwife with active registration
