### Skills

**Essential**

- Excellent communication skills particularly the ability to deal with staff throughout the organisation is essential.
- Excellent telephone manner and ability to communicate with external suppliers and staff from across specialist areas within the Trust.
- Advanced Keyboard Skills.
- Professional approach to customers and suppliers and ability to use own initiative to plan workload and analyse and process low value quotes on behalf of the Trust.
- Communicate across a broad range of both internal and external customers projecting a professional image of both the Trust and the Department
- The ability to communicate with external suppliers is essential as the post holder may be the first point of contact within the Trust.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge of the supply chain within the NHS including an understanding of local and national contracting policy.
- Knowledge of Oracle financial ERP system including the use of spread sheets
- Maintains an awareness of market developments and market trends
- A broad understanding of the supply chain activities within the NHS and how they relate to Trust level purchasing. The ability carry out trends analysis of procured items and offer advice to the Contracting team on best use of resource and planned activity.
- Have a good understanding of the contracts negotiated by both the Trust and national bodies to ensure that items are sourced through compliant contracts.
- Knowledge of medical and non-medical products used within the NHS.

**Desirable**

- Understanding of customer requirements that are particular to the healthcare industry is desirable.
- Awareness of the organisation of purchasing within the NHS is desirable.

### Experience

- Experience of contracting or purchasing support within a large complex organisation.
- Experience within a healthcare setting particularly an acute service provider.

- The post will entail travel to all Trust sites, other NHS locations and suppliers premises.
- Continual VDU use during the day.
