### Job overview

To provide safe, effective, and consistent decontamination of endoscopes and associated equipment between the hours of 8am – 9pm Mon - Sat. The post holder will follow established procedures and guidelines to ensure high-quality decontamination, accurate documentation, and full compliance with national standards (including HTM01-06).

### Main duties of the job

- Under the direction of the Endoscopy Decontamination Team Leader participate fully in the safe delivery of the endoscopy service, reporting any breaches in the decontamination process to the Endoscopy supervisor.
- Responsible for the completion of the daily checklists for the Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AERS), and the daily and weekly checklist for the drying cabinets.
- Work collaboratively with all staff in the EDU (Endoscopy Decontamination Unit) to ensure a safe delivery of service.
- Follow guidelines in reporting and documenting faults with decontamination equipment to the appropriate internal/external department ensuring that all faults are followed through and resolved.
- Resolve day to day issues arising with decontamination equipment.
- Liaise with specialist technical engineers and external manufactures / companies as necessary.
- Comply with all documentation guidelines to maintain safety for patients, self, and other staff.
- Recognise and respond to urgent and emergency situations.
- To be flexible within the decontamination unit, working in any area as necessary, guided by local policies and work instructions.

Governance
- Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others by taking action/alerting senior management team if practice appears to contravene policy, or if concerned about any aspect of patient care.
- Adhere to the recommendations for control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) and risk assessments appropriate to the area.
- Awareness of the HTM01-06 regulations.
- Ensure tracking and traceability processes are always adhered to, resolving any discrepancies, and reporting unresolved issues to the EDTL.
- Assist with Audits within own area of work.
- Responsible for first line maintenance of endoscope and accessories and resolving faults at source.
- Establish and maintain effective communication, maintaining confidentiality of information.

Education /Learning

- Attend all mandatory and essential training / study as directed.
- Take responsibility for own learning and development by recognising and taking advantage of all opportunities to gain experience, including full participation in Motiv8/appraisal, supervision, action learning and by maintaining a professional/personal portfolio of learning.
- Complete local and national Decontamination competencies.
- Act as a “mentor” to new staff.

Managerial / Leadership

- Ensure a healthy, safe, and secure working environment, ensuring compliance with legal. and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate documentation, and reporting any concerns.
- Participate in the development of decontamination services.
- The ability to maintain basic stock usage and control procedure.

Communications

- Communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully with colleagues across the Endoscopy Decontamination Unit and the wider Endoscopy service.
- Ensure all communication supports safe, effective decontamination processes and timely escalation of issues.
- Report equipment faults, process breaches, or concerns promptly to the Endoscopy Team Leader or Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate, legible, and timely documentation across all decontamination and traceability systems.
- Respond appropriately to urgent or unexpected situations, ensuring key information is shared quickly with the relevant staff.
- Participate in handovers, team briefings, and service updates to support continuity of care and smooth workflow.
- Handle all patient-identifiable information sensitively and in line with Trust confidentiality and information governance policies.
- Support a positive, collaborative working environment by demonstrating professional communication, active listening, and constructive feedback.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience in a demanding environment.

**Desirable**

- Previous experience in an endoscopy decontamination setting.
- Experience in using a tracking and traceability system.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Good standard of basic numeracy and litracy

### Physical skills

**Essential**

- Cleared by Occupational Health to undertake the duties of the role.
- Ability to perform a wide range of duties according to the job description.
- Ability to undertake the demands of the role which may include working shifts (including night shifts) and taking part in a rota which may include weekends.

### Skills and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Basic keyboard / computer skills and willingness to develop IT skills.
- Understanding of decontamination issues.
- Excellent communication skills. Attention to detail.
- The ability to own workload, and work within a team.
- Experience of working to time frames.
- Manual dexterity
