We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Emergency Care Practitioner/ Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ECP/ENP) to join our dynamic healthcare team at Lewes Urgent Treatment Centre. The role is for one full time vacancy and one part time.

The successful candidate will provide Clinical and Professional Leadership, ensuring robust governance for staff within the designated area or service. They will ensure that staff maintain clinical competence, that services are delivered with clinical effectiveness and safety, and that an exceptional patient experience is consistently achieved.

The post holder will work centrally in the development of the Urgent Treatment Centre and its education and training needs. To be a pro-active role model for the Unit in terms of clinical, education and general management quality standards and the nurse professional team leader.

### Main duties of the job

This role covers the Sussex Community Foundation Trust Urgent Care. The post holder will work within local, national & NICE guidelines to triage, assess, and treat patients attending the Units. NHSE is continuing to lead on the transformation of a variety of services into Urgent Treatment Centres although currently our Minor Injury Units remain. The post holder will provide assessments for patients presenting to the Units with either an injury or illness. This means that an existing qualification is required in either illness or injury.

This post involves both sound, autonomous clinical assessment & treatment skills & the knowledge of where to re-direct inappropriate attendances, ensuring patients are transferred safely according to their presenting condition. The Post holder will be integral to the team and contribute to the overall running of the Units which includes the management of other staff working within the Unit, support with education or training needs and daily supervision.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Act as autonomous practitioner to triage, assess, examine and treat the nature & extent of injury/ illness for each patient.  To assess those that are acutely unwell & arrange any immediate treatment (within guidelines) & safe transfer to the most appropriate facility.

Use clinical tools such as X-ray. To know when to request and how to interpret, making independent judgement on the diagnosis and treatment of fractures and seeking further opinion when required.

To use & develop skills to include tissue adhesives, suturing, administration of injections including infiltration of local anaesthetic, manipulation of pulled elbows, digits, plastering.

Able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of Patient Group Directions available for a range of presenting conditions in the absence of a Non-Medical Prescriber qualification.  Demonstrate sound knowledge of the administration of drugs for analgesia or treatment within the Units.

To supervise & mentor additional members of the team as required such as Nurse Practitioners, HCA’s, student nurses & paramedic practitioners. This to include appraisals & sign off mentoring.

To demonstrate personal & professional development and undertake training where required within agreed timescales.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Substantial Post Registration experience in urgent care field
- Recent autonomous clinical experience
- Experience in using clinical software systems eg S1, PACS, Emiss.
- Able to use Patient Group Directions

**Desirable**

- Some experience in minor illness
- Recent experience in primary care

### Other requirements

**Essential**

- Must be a car driver

**Desirable**

- Willingness to travel across all 3 units

### Skills and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Able to demonstrate Excellent clinical skills
- Adult & Children's safeguarding
- Evidence of extended clinical skills relevant to level of practice such as suturing, plastering
- X-ray requesting and interpretation
- Able to recognise clinically when a patient requires referral in both the emergency and planned situation
- Ability to empower patients by appropriate health teaching and advice

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of local and national policies relevant to clinical area.
- Experience with the development of protocols, guidelines and policies
- Knowledge of Health and Safety within clinical practice and associated areas
- Experience of clinical audit

### Qualifications/Professional Registration

**Essential**

- NMC or HCPC Registration
- Post Registration Practitioner qualification
- Registered accredited study in minor injury or illness
- Advanced Physical assessment

**Desirable**

- Educated to degree level
- Irmer certificate
- Mentorship qualification
- Non Medical Prescriber
