The post has been developed to improve delivery of teaching & training to foundation doctors & medical students on placements at Croydon University Hospital.  Therefore, the post holder is expected to play a major role in developing Innovative-teaching programme to support the training of foundation trainees & medical students from St Georges and GKT Medical Schools. The post holder is excepted to play significant role in the support of simulation for foundation doctors and medical students by working with the Administrators, Simulation Manager, simulation fellows and the Deputy/Director of Medical Education (DME) in the simulation Centre

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will take a lead role in teaching surgical and EYCE medical students and co-ordinate students’ placement with the undergraduate lead for surgery.  The Teach Fellow will also support foundation doctors across all the acute services to ensure that they can achieve their learning objectives.  There will be close liaison with the Consultants responsible for the students and other Clinical Teaching Fellows in the Trust to ensure coordination of undergraduate and Foundation teaches meets the curriculum requirement.

The post holder will also play a key role to support KCL medical students on site  and attend regular KCL medical school Forum  as and when required.

There is also a commitment to the teaching and training of Foundation trainees and core specialty trainees.

At least 50% of the post holder’s time will be spent on teaching activities in the surgical/acute specialties with the opportunity to focus on general surgery.

The remainder of the week will be used either for clinical   medicine and  work to develop the individual’s career with a commitment to  40% - 50% per week in a clinical area.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a dual appointment to support both teaching and service and 40% -50% of the time will be spent on both post graduate and Undergraduate teaching activities with a focus on the candidates chosen specialty.  The remainder 40 - 50% of the week will be used for clinical work to develop the individual’s career and support service. Half a day per week will be protected for personal professional development on site : and part of this should be used to develop teaching skills.

The post holder is encouraged  to register for the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare and Biomedical Education course at St. George’s, University of London. Partly funded from the current study leave allowance.

In addition, the post holder will have a commitment to assisting the Foundation Director to develop Foundation teaching together with all other Post-graduate teaching programmes.  Junior doctor inductions and the setting and marking of the Pharmacy exam are part of their responsibility.

The post-holder will be required to assist with teaching in the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre.  The use of this resource is expected to form part of teaching scenarios within the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Foundation trainees’ curriculum.

- Registered with the General Medical Council
- Specialty level ST2+ +
- - Teaching experience + Sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop Innovative Teaching programmes and the provision of learning support skills appropriate to grade

**Desirable**

- Teaching qualification or preparedness to work towards
- - Experience of managing teaching and training Programmes
