We are looking someone to join our team on bank to provide high quality care of babies and children within the Day Nursery, in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

### Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Professional Role:

- To care for children in accordance with their individual physical, social and psychological needs.
- To work within both NHS and Ofsted’s national, regional and local guidelines relating to day care provision.
- To take every reasonable opportunity to maintain existing expertise and develop new skills as appropriate.
- To support senior staff as a member of the Nursery team.
- At all times to maintain strict confidentiality.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Junior / Bank Nursery Practitioner Role:

- To actively work within the nursery team of Nursery Practitioners, whilst having a flexible, adaptable approach, ensuring the delivery of high quality Day Nursery Care, that is responsive to client needs.
- To contribute to the learning programmes for education, physical, emotional, social and cultural development through play activities.
- Ensure that play activities provide learning opportunities. Reflect cultural diversity and promote equal opportunities.
- Create an environment in which play occurs naturally and is appropriate to age and ability.
- To contribute to records/observations on individual children’s development within the nursery.
- To ensure the physical wellbeing of the child, reporting accidents and untoward occurrences to the manager, if and when they occur.
- To maintain a clean and tidy environment throughout the Day Nursery, reporting any faults or broken equipment to a senior member of staff.
- Ensure safe working environment is maintained for self and others, taking appropriate action as necessary in line with legislation, Trust and departmental requirement.
- Lift and manoeuvre babies, children and equipment in accordance with manual handling regulations and good practice.
- To communicate in an effective manner with parents/primary carers.
- Work within the Day Nursery agreed policies, procedures and equal opportunities guidelines.
- To prepare healthy refreshments for the children.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge and understanding of high quality childcare.
- Understanding the needs of children aged 0 – 5 years.
- A knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of recording and observing children’s development.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working with children aged 0 – 5 years in a Day Nursery setting.

**Desirable**

- Previous post qualifying experience of working with babies and children aged 0 – 5years.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- NVQ2 or equivalent in Early Childhood Studies.
- Good literacy and numeracy required.

**Desirable**

- Basic Food Hygiene
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Other relevant training applicable to Childcare and knowledge of Ofsted guidelines
