The early pregnancy unit at ASPH has an exciting opportunity to recruit a part time band 6 nurse/midwife.

We are looking for experienced and compassionate women's health and gynaecology nurses/midwives to join our Early Pregnancy Unit team. We are a dynamic, friendly and supportive team rising to the challenges of a busy fast paced emergency pregnancy unit.

Working with the multi-disciplinary team, you will need to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to motivate and manage, adapting, driving and leading rapidly changing situations.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will

Contribute to the provision of emotional and medical support to women and their partners who are experiencing problems during the first 12 weeks of their pregnancy including miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.

Triaging and history taking either face to face or over the phone.

To provide advice to other health care professionals and the patients in their care.

To support the other specialist clinics that run out of EPU such as the recurrent miscarriage clinic, emergency gynaecology and the Manual Vacuum Aspiration procedure.

Work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, including sonography, fertility and A and E.

Work flexibly to cover the needs of the unit. This includes the expectation that the post holder will work weekends on rotation if this becomes necessary.

Contribute to developing and maintaining a suitable and stimulating learning environment for students and medical colleagues.

Take charge of the Unit on a regular basis

Contribute to Quality Improvement initiatives.

To work effectively and efficiently with the units integrated Multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate management of care.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide holistic assessment, care and treatment to patients under the supervision of expert colleagues and within agreed guidelines and protocols and plan / conduct appropriate patient follow-up

To address patient’s health promotion and prevention needs through comprehensive assessment of individuals for risk factors and early signs of illness

To act as an advocate for the patient in treatment decisions and choices

To identify and uphold safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children in line with trust policies and refer to relevant services as necessary

To use effective communication and interpersonal skills to provide information, explanation, and reassurance to patients and families, and build an environment of trust and rapport, enabling patient empowerment

To maintain accurate and contemporaneous documentation of patients assessment, care, treatment, and follow up

Demonstrate effective time management and prioritisation of workload

Take an active role in the induction and orientation of new staff

Demonstrate procedures and supervise junior staff and students in the practice of new clinical skills.

Use clinical standards to participate in the process of monitoring the quality of care delivered. Ensure that nursing practice is of the highest standard in line with trust and CQC standards

Assist with the evaluation of care and initiate any action required, for example liaising with the multidisciplinary team as appropriate

Review the effectiveness of the nursing care provided and initiate any action that may be required

Undertake any reasonable and relevant clinical or non-clinical functions commensurate with their banding

Supply and/or administer medication safely in line with trust medicines policy

Take on extra duties and responsibilities as delegated and agreed by the Senior Sister within their capabilities and/or limitations.

Demonstrate effective time management and prioritisation of workload

Take an active role in the induction and orientation of new staff

Demonstrate procedures and supervise junior staff and students in the practice of new clinical skills.
