We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible Duty Senior nurse to join our established multi professional team working for Kent & Medway Mental Health Trust based at the Priority House, Hermitage Lane,  Maidstone, Kent, ME16 9PH

The Duty Senior Nurse (DSN) plays a critical leadership role across multiple services on each site, offering expert clinical guidance, operational oversight, and proactive support to frontline teams. The services include inpatient, rapid response, home treatment teams, liaison psychiatry and NHS 111 (press 2).

You will be required to adopt a flexible working pattern and be committed to self-development and training.

### Main duties of the job

- The post holder will be expected to be the first point of contact for frontline staff needing clinical advice, supported by on-call manager and on-call director.
- The post holder will participate in teleconference calls when on duty as required.
- Act as the sole contact point for requests to on-call services, managers and directors, supporting and meeting the needs of the services and service users as they arise.
- To coordinate resources across services out of hours and ensure the appropriate deployment of staff within the services according to need, ensuring safer staffing levels, NHSP/Agency booked and authorised as required.
- To act as a resource providing expert advice to staff and other professionals as required.
- To maintain a safe environment and therapeutic milieu and ensure patient care is of the highest standard throughout.
- To be a point of contact and information for families and relatives if needed.
- Ensure that there are appropriate communication links between the Wider Mental Health Team, General Wards, Accident & Emergency Departments, Police, CQC and other agencies as required.
- If the situation requires it, the post holder will be responsible for invoking Local Business Continuity Plans.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Work experience on an inpatient ward – older or younger adult
- Leadership Experience

**Desirable**

- 2 years’ experience as a band 6 nurse

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Good organisational and time management skills
- Knowledge of discharge processes and what might delay a discharge
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team, using initiative

**Desirable**

- Ability to manage, and work within the framework of, the eRoster, using reporting systems generated by this Roster to enhance quality and efficiency
- Leadership skills which demonstrate application of all Trust Policies, e.g. Capability (Performance Management), Absence Management, Disciplinary, Infection prevention and Control, Roster Management, Complaints etc.

### Education and qualifications

- Registered Nurse
- Dip HE or Degree

**Desirable**

- Leadership training
