Band 6 Charge Nurse Hazel and Willow Ward

Hazel and Willow Ward each require a full-time band 6 Charge Nurse.

The successful candidate will be a key part of the Campbell Centre Senior Leadership Team. We require a dynamic, compassionate leader to who can ensure high standards of care and effective management of acute services, with an emphasis on safety and flow whilst ensuring good outcomes for our patients.

The Charge Nurse will work with the staff to ensure that the process of assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of care is of an excellent standard.  The postholder will work to support the Ward Manager by active involvement in service development.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will demonstrate active clinical and managerial leadership skills within the team, providing education and supervision to junior staff members and other professionals.

The post holder will undertake the role of Duty Senior Nurse and have responsibility for liaising with internal and external agencies and managing patient flow activity during the day.

The DSN function is under review and will be phased out as part of the bed management changes being undertaken.

This position is only available to current band 5’s working on Hazel and Willow Ward and will be required to work a 24/7 rotational shift pattern.

Please note - you may not necessarily remain on the ward you are currently working.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The postholder will be responsible for leading the nursing team and ensuring a high quality of patient care.  The Charge Nurse will work with the staff to ensure that the process of assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of care is of an excellent standard.

The postholder will work to support the Ward Manager by active involvement in service development.

The post holder will demonstrate active clinical and managerial leadership skills within the team, providing education and supervision to junior staff members and other professionals

The post holder will undertake the role Duty Senior Nurse and have responsibility for liaising with internal and external agencies.

The main role of the DSN is to offer leadership, support, advice and expertise to the clinical teams, leading on clinical and managerial issues when the staff teams themselves are unable to do so, reporting all relevant information to the Senior Management, leading on admission processes, ensuring effective patients care and patient flow. The DSN will also work collaboratively with the police officers to facilitate access to the HBPoS and organise Mental Health Assessment with Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) for individuals who have been detained.

**Essential**

- Ability to develop & maintain high standards of communication both orally and in writing with people about difficult matters & / in difficult situations (KSF 1.3)*
- Ability to prioritise & plan own workload to meet deadlines & competing demands

**Desirable**

- Ability to negotiate and influence where appropriate

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and understanding of clinical risk assessments
- Understands & promotes equality, diversity and human rights in accordance with legislation, policy and procedures relating to recruitment (KSF 6.2)*
- Understanding of confidentiality in the workplace

### Experience

**Essential**

- Can demonstrate post registration experience.
- Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding.

**Desirable**

- Specialist and area specific experience.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Professional Qualification (Mental Health/Learning Disabilities/General) to degree level or equivalent. Maintains current registration with the NMC.
- Further specialist knowledge/post registration experience in specific service area or other formal training

**Desirable**

- Demonstrate continued professional development to maintain professional registration.

### Physical requirements

**Essential**

- Able to undertake training in the management of violence reduction
- Has the physical ability to perform the full range of nursing duties
